2019 Trade Deadline Thread:

It’s almost like HRs and RBI from a 30 year old in AAA with juiced balls isn’t impressing anyone with any authority.

Weird.

Demeritte is second in OPS in the IL, which is somewhat impressive. Duval is 13th.

Tempting but cant trade Waters for two rentals.

How does a trade look if we forget Bumgarner and get Smith and Dyson instead?

DOB has just added credibility to the Matthew Boyd rumor, adding that a package for he and Shane Greene would be quite the ticket. Boyd would be under control through 2022, Greene through 2020.

I trust AA but I am not particularly high on either of those guys. I will be happy with whatever trade we make as long as it doesnt include our top 3 prospects.

I know the Braves wont get in the bidding war for Cole, but just saying it's what i'd do.

And Thor hasnt been very good and would cost a ton.

Braves have alot of money coming off the books this winter, and Ozzie/Ronnie are locked up on team friendly deals. I guess we could use the money on internal players like Swanson, giving Freeman a new deal. Re-signing Keuchel and JD, Swarkak, etc.

Thor is a victim of bad luck. That's it. He's still one pf the top starters in baseball.

You are correct. Pitching like a legit #2 (TOR depending on semantics) but getting the results of a #4.

2019 xwOBA: .280
2019 wOBA: .314

That's the 8th "unluckiest" mark among the 157 pitchers who have faced 200+ PAs in 2019.

He's a little off from his usual ~.260+ xwOBA that defines him as an Ace, but still very good.

I don’t know if he can keep it up but Boyd has been putting up ace numbers and peripherals this year even if he only is primarily a 2 pitch guy

Boyd has been a legit ~.290 xwOBA guy for about 1.5 seasons now. Definite #2/#3 that folks will argue is a TOR guy when he's getting fortunate results. Similarly as effective as Soroka.

As long as he's valued as such he could be a good addition. If the Tigers are marketing him as a bonafide controllable Ace then he's not worth the cost.

The Tigers did get burned when they passed on some good offers for Fulmer.

caveat venditor

I guess if the deal is right you go for it but all of this speculation is irrelevant until the Braves find out where Folty/Gausman are at.

I think its safe to say right now the Braves do not want either Teheran/Fried to start a playoff game.

There are two locks right now in Keuchel/Soroka. I don't trust Gausman at all but I do think that Folty will regain his form.

The question is - If both Folty/Gausman pitch effectively the next two weeks does that change the decision making?

Of course

Can't argue with this, I'm just wondering if AA can get the Tigers to do something stupid... I don't know what that is but I think its possible with their current FO

I don't know about Boyd. He seems to be trending in the wrong direction and there are going to be teams willing to overpay.

Between Boyd/Syndergard/Stroman/Wheeler I think AA can be patient and pick up the one that is either the least expensive in prospect capital or the one where the analysts think the least excess surplus value is provided.

Well that’s true of any available guy. If AA can find any other GM willing to overvalue a Braves asset, he should pull the trigger. If that’s Boyd or Wheeler or Stroman or Bumgarner or Smith or Thor or any other guy speculated as a trade target, that logic is sound and should remain constant. It’s almost certainly why AA switched gears from Archer to Gausman last season.
