2019 Trade Deadline Thread:

One name that has not come up to my memory is Aaron Bummer of the Pale Hose. LH RP with some pretty good numbers. Fits what some are saying about AA going on the Value Aisle and not talked about.

Article and Stats from BR

Age: 25

Contract: In second year of team control, hitting arbitration in 2021 season and free agency after the 2023 season (at least four more seasons of control).

2019 stats: 38.0 IP, 1 SV, 1.66 ERA, 3.26 FIP, 3.40 xFIP, 68.8% GB%, 24.1% K%, 0.8 fWAR

Bummer has been brilliant for the White Sox this season and could end up being a closer long term. While Bummer might not have the high strikeout rate of a typical dominant reliever, he makes up for it with his groundball rate. With a devastating sinker that has an average velocity of 95.4 MPH, it is not surprising that Bummer is second in MLB with a groundball rate of 68.8% (minimum 30 IP). He could provide excellent setup work for the Braves in 2019 and be a cog in the Braves’ bullpen for years to come. With much of the reliever market likely to be more focused on the White Sox’s closer, Alex Colomé, the Braves might be able to swoop in a snag a gem in Bummer.

I mentioned Bummer a while back. He will cost a pretty penny due to cheap control.

Enscheff thinks we can beat the Astros or Yankees with Keuchel, Soroka, and Julio.

Don't even tell him about the Dodgers or Nationals.

Haha.

Please go get Thor or MadBum or Bauer.

Spoken like someone who doesn't even belong posting here anymore...

Yes, go "all in" to boost the WS chances from 7% to 11%. Great plan.

Luckily for us, AA is smarter than that and understands the longer term picture of building a long term contender.

Now off you go. If you fail another under grad midterm D1 daddy will be very disappointed since you can't do anything athletic or academic.

You have morphed into nothing but an AA toady.

WS chances would be far greater if we landed, say, Thor, Sugar, and Pence or Puig. The Reds are incredibly dumb so we could maybe get Puig for a bargain.

Scheff is playing the long game and not making one big move that might give us a better chance but would hurt in the future.

And you think that we can beat them with Thor, Madbum, or Bauer (noting that you have conspicuously grouped Madbum in your supposed group of "aces").

I think we could grab Thor/Bauer, Diaz/Vasquez, and Puig/Peralta and it would only increase our chances of beating the Dodgers by 5-10%. Right now we have about a 10% chance of making the world series and about a 5% chance of winning it. If we picked up all three of those guys it may bump our chances up to 15 and 10.

I understand. I would rather go all in now.

1. Flags fly forever.

2. Freeman is not getting any younger.

3. Good luck finding a 4 hitter as good as Donaldson once he rejects the QO.

What's not to like about what AA has done? Fans like you wanted to spend big money and years on Kimbrel. Cubs are already regretting it. AA is refuses to kill our future by overpaying in years, money, and prospects. Pretty smart if you ask me.

"Flags fly forever"...

What does that even mean haha? What a stupid cliche...

Consistently competitive teams entertain us for many months year after year.

Or you can sit around looking at a "flag" for 3-4 years while the team sucks. Worked so well for marlins fans.

Typical millennial longing for instant gratification.

1- Flags fly forever but Braves arent a big market team where they can trade their best prospects and it wont hurt them as much as a big market club.

2- He's not, but he's still damn good.

3- Donaldson will be 34 with a QO attatched to him, i dont know who is giving up a top 2 round pick for that.

I know we'll eventually have to cash our chips eventually, i dont believe now is the time to do that.

No sir.

I didn't want to spend big money on Kimbrel. He is too old.

As far as liking/disliking what AA has done: I don't like not being close on anything this close to the deadline.

"Far greater" is a pretty vague term. Give us your estimate for how much those guys would boost our world series chances? Because I guarantee you that every single projection site would have the gain as no more than 5-10%, and that is being incredibly generous. So you're willing to sell off Pache, Waters, Anderson, Wright, and/or all the other 45+ prospects we have for a 5-10% increase at most?

Doesn't seem that wise.

The fact that "flags fly forever" is the primary justification for your argument tells everyone a lot about your thought process. Or lack thereof.

You play to win championships.

Typical liberal with no balls.

I think Puig can be had pretty reasonable but Thor and Diaz is gonna start with Anderson and probably Waters and keep going for 2-3 more prospects. They are both controllable for several more years so I wouldn’t cry about it if it happened.

As far as I know all of the deals that have been made thus far were never talked about as being 'close'. Odds are any moves the Braves make will just magically appear without any build up. Kind of like the rest of the moves AA has made.

If this morphs into a bet make sure you get whatever payment he promises as stakes up front, or you will assuredly be stiffed when he loses.
