2019 Trade Deadline Thread:

The Melancon deal is certainly weird, but I think its hard to call this deadline anything but a success. We now have a bunch of bullpen depth and some solid guys on the back end. I don't expect it to be dominant, but good enough to give us a really good shot. And we got all of it without giving up much of anything.

Yeah.

We'll have a reliable albeit expensive bullpen arm to shop this winter or hold onto for next year since Martin is gone.

Greene will be here another year as well. It makes there be less question marks about the bullpen heading into opening day but at least for the next 3 months we know there aren't anymore question marks barring anymore injuries.

That kinda sucks

So we’re on the hook for the rest of this year’s salary and next year’s 14 million. This year doesn’t really matter now, but next year is less than ideal that his 14 million will count against our budget. But oh well. At least we have all our stud prospects. Hard to really complain.

Think I would have preferred to just not get Melancon in this case after getting Greene and Martin already.

He simply isn't that impactful, and $14M is a lot of cash for this team...like 10% of the payroll.

Not really happy about it at all honestly, and would call it a clear loss for AA.

Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos said the job of the closer is up to Snit... "all three additions are late inning guys, but I'll discuss the closer role with Snit when he gets back" (Traveling from Washington)

Yeah i would have been okay with it if MM was at like 7 mil or so, but 14 is a ton of money for a non-closer, non-elite one at that.
