2020 Field

this never stops being relevant. You could apply this to Democrats too I guess. Last time we had a mentally challenged Republican President elected under dubious conditions we only had the biggest terrorist attack in our country and invaded several countries in which we would spend trillions of dollars. You know, so not much at stake that impacts our daily lives.

pretty sure democratic socialism gets implement by a democratic republic voting people in to implement such a concept

It's sad how ignorant people are.

If democratic socialism gets "implemented"... it would be forced upon me as it is not voluntary at all.

Unlike capitalism, which is voluntary and you are free to not participate if you wish not to.

Got it?

Actually both socialism and capitalism are policy choices that come out of a political process. Some countries make it easier for people who want to opt out to go off the grid.

Can we just try Democratic socialism for 8 years and if it doesn’t workout,

we just go back to destroying the planet & working peoples lives for (profit)?

You know, business as usual.

*♂️

Lol yeah right. As if history has shown us it’s easy to roll back a government program once implemented, regardless of how effective it is/isn’t...

so ?

regardless how effective ?

I think that is what my motehr used to call throwing out the baby with the bath water.

You are for instance, in favor of for profit prison?

please tell me more about the evils of Democratic Socialism.
Had Sen Grassley lived Southside Chicago and these were food stamps ...

The Intellectualist
@highbrow_nobrow

For the second time since October, Senator Grassley is applying for a federal bailout of his own private farm.

Just go ahead and admit, it isn't the socialism it is who is on the receiving end of the socialism

Yeah, if you don’t want to participate in capitalism

You don’t have to

Hahahahahahaha

What’s crazy is you think capitalism isn’t happening in democratic socialist countries lol

Then the premise of that tweet you posted is bull and I’m not sure why you posted it. If you can’t roll back a policy, then there is no such thing as “just trying” democratic socialism.

I wasnt clear. Why roll back an effective policy?

You wouldn’t want to...my argument is you would want to roll back an ineffective program, but history shows that’s easier said than done. So there’s really no “trying” democratic socialism...we’d be stuck with what we get.

Really? You might want to google the ways Sweden has reformed its economy to make it more competitive or the ways Germany has reformed its labor market to make it more flexible. While you're at it check out Finland too. And read up a little on Margaret Thatcher Milk Snatcher.

or even in our own backyard we are seeing EPA regulations rolled back weekly.

That is to my mind a flimsy argument to say that once implemented there is no going back.
Meaning to me, why try anything different because it might not work.
Or worse, might work

For profit prisons --- ace you pro or con ?

Sen Grassley taking socialistic moneys to prop up his farms ?
That form of Socialism
Pro or con ?

Business as usual is not working for large swaths of citizenry.

I’m talking about America. How many temporary programs become permanent? How many social programs are rolled back once some people start receiving benefits?

Discretionary domestic spending fell as a percentage of GDP under Reagan, the only modern president under which it has happened. So the welfare state can be trimmed. Bigger changes have not happened because the voters dont want them not because there is some structural impediment.

It takes persistence and leadership skills to move things in the direction of smaller and hopefully smarter government. Those of us who favor this have a responsibility to seek out leaders with those skills. We should be part of the resistance when our political home gets taken over by a bunch of crazies and charlatans.

I think it’s naive to assume we can “just try” democratic socialism for a few years and roll back the changes if we don’t like them. Once people start receiving goodies (regardless of the costs, short term and long term, or the efficiency of the program), good luck taking them away.

I'm trying to understand what is this democratic socialism. Does it include any of the following?

1) Public schools
2) Unemployment insurance
3) Social security
4) Medicare
5) Food stamps
