2020 Trade Deadline Thread

Lance Lynn would be a great get.
i wonder if someone like Austin Nola for 3B would work. no idea what his defense is like.

It could be completely untrue but Kevin McAlpin mentioned in his show this morning that the Braves are "close" on a big trade. Who knows if it materializes, but just an FYI.

I was listening to him this morning. He didn’t say they were close, he just said that from what someone has told him, he would t be shocked if the Braves made a “massive” deal.

Basically been saying the same thing around the trade deadline since AA took over.

I take that statement with a grain of salt

Interesting to notice in FanGraphs' updated rankings that A-Jax is back up to #10 and has a 45/Low Risk grade while Langeliers is #7 with a 45/Medium Risk grade. If that's remotely close to the way most scouts and organizations view the two of them it's awfully hard not to see one of them involved if there is a bigger deal coming this week.

he's 30 years old.
there's absolutely reason to trade him: sell high on a 30-year old.

The guy looked like a career minor leaguer, then suddenly becomes a stud for 350+ MLB PAs over parts of 2 seasons.

It would be interesting to dig into his story. I never even heard the name until today.

seems like he could be a solid super-sub at worst, a cheap starting 3B this year at best.

i also wonder if this is a year to engage the Marlins on Brian Anderson.
wonder what he would cost. a good bit i assume.

AA's deals get leaked when they're done, he works in the dark. We should know this by now. But i'm not expecting anything major.

Qualified starters from teams I consider "out of it".

Red Sox - Perez, Eovaldi
Tigers - Boyd
Royals - Duffy, Singer
Mariners - None
Angels - Bundy, Heaney
Pirates - None

So that's 7 names, and it seems like only the Pirates are clear sellers in the NL.

Bundy - owed basically nothing, dominant in 2020, still under arb control next...this is a prime target
Heaney - same deal as Bundy, probably costs less to acquire
Perez - mediocre pitcher, owed very little, cheap option for 2021...a prime candidate
Eovaldi - owed a lot of cash for a while, hard to justify this add financially
Boyd - owed nothing, arb control in 2021, much better than his 8.48 ERA...a prime candidate
Duffy - owed some cash through 2021, solid SP, think I heard KC will never trade him
Singer - tons of control, isn't going anywhere

Perez seems free, so pencil him in as a Braves by the end of the month.

Bundy seems like a breakout star with the O's so expect them to keep him for next year. The Angels probably aren't going to punt any season with Trout, so probably not trading Heaney either. Eovaldi is too expensive without Boston sending cash. Duffy and Singer seem like fixtures in KC.

That leaves Boyd as a buy low candidate.

So...Perez and Boyd it is.

Musgrove would be worth a look from Pitt if he returns before the deadline.

Austin Nola has played a grand total of 18 innings at 3B in his two seasons with the Mariners and about 230 innings in his various minor league stops over 7+ minor league seasons, so I'm guessing he's not an option at that position.

For the record, he's Aaron Nola's older brother.

my suggestion came from the fact that he has 3B eligibility in fantasy. and that’s it.

There was an article from last month that the team was talking to him about an extension. Maybe they are hoping to build around him.

I really want the Reds to trade Bauer somewhere. He seems like such a perfect fit for us (now or in the offseason as a free agent), but I would love for that draft pick not to be attached when AA tries to sign him.

Dero's latest...

Braves Get:
Seager and Walker

Mariners Get:
Touki and Contreras

Make it Langeliers and I'm all-in. If they're getting Contreras we need significant money back. Make it Touki and Riley and I'd take all of Seager's money and figure out what to do.
