Curious to know if the PTNBL is a way around it. Are the rules clear on allowing someone not on the 60-man to be a PTBNL at some point. If that's the case. my guess we will see a lot of it in the next few days.

Lynn, Seager plus a rental starter and hope Hamels can get to at least a piggyback role by the postseason.

I think folks are overrating the value of Touki a bit around here, and undervaluing Seager.
The Ms would have to eat some cash, probably something approximating the difference between the 2022 being a team vs player option...so $10Mish? It's really hard to value a player for the rest of 2020, so it's a lot of guesswork as to what Seager is worth this season.
And it doesn't have to be Touki. Could be Wright, or Newk, or some other MLB-ready guy who hasn't stuck yet. Maybe they want Riley or Camargo as Seager's replacement...I wouldn't want them, but the Ms aren't exactly geniuses.

Doing a quick look, seems to be a barren year for players needing to be protected. Jasseel de la Cruz is the biggest name, but he’s already on the 40 man this season. Any others that would need to be added are players we’ve already played the DFA game with a few times like Sobotka, Walker, etc. No one really of note.
For an out of options middle IF with a bad bat. Feels like a missed opportunity for us.

Really, Riley has been coming around. I’m not sure AA would make a move for Seager at this point. It’s a lot less bleak looking than it was a few weeks back.
As for starting pitching, I don’t know about giving up even Newk for a rental. You are getting one month of a player. Now...if that player is a huge difference maker...yes. The pitchers we are talking about are mostly average. Newk for example has proven to be a very good reliever (although bombed as a starter). That’s still pretty valuable, and guys like Touki and Wilson may never end up being starters, but could be incredible relievers....heck even look at Wisler with way less “stuff”. Remember we lose some bullpen guys next year that need to be replaced.
AA won’t give up a talented young arm for a rental. They will crunch numbers and find some guy that is under the radar, but has great numbers(Chris Martin). They will find bargains that can eat innings, or he will go for a big deal (which there aren’t many and would be super expensive and unlikely). It probably depends on what they know about Hamels also (that of course they won’t tell us).

Minor looked really good yesterday - shutout the Dodgers for 6 innings.
Martin Perez got knocked around by the Gnats last night and developed a blister.
Assuming it's unlikely they make a play for Seager (even though they probably should), my vote would be for 2 of the Minor/Boyd/Cobb group - they've got the most upside and best track records. Botd and Minor's values are down and if they're able to tweak something could literally turn to gold.

Riley has a .781 OPS in August. He is very young. Would be very early to give up on him. Everyone said, “Well he can hit a fastball, but nothing else”. His homeruns lately have been off breaking balls. He reminds me very much of how Dansby struggled with the slider and was almost unplayable if not for his defense. Would I rather have Seager for the playoffs....absolutely. Do I think AA will feel he needs to sacrifice payroll and prospects at third with Riley’s improvement....no...I do not.
My guess is Minor for someone like Jenista would be a move AA would make.

It is night and day difference between him and Camargo.
Over his past 57 ABs, Camargo is hitting .158/.172/.333, and over his past 25 ABs .120/.120/.240
Rilver over his past 54 ABs is hitting .278/.304/.463 and over his last 25 ABs .360/.407/.640

IF Riley is able to continue what he's done lately, it would not shock me at all if we continue to let him grow and develop instead of biting the bullet on 3B at any point for now. I'd have less confidence with him than Swanson though, because Swanson's past problems were different, IMHO.
If we had been talking about 2 weeks ago, we likely had a very high likelihood that we'd probably at least see a 3B move this offseason, but again, IF Riley keeps hitting, that will diminish the chances of it.
As of right now, to the Braves themselves, it looks like Riley is growing, no matter how others might feel...
