2021 BA Top 100

Anderson likely wouldn’t be there without his mlb performance.

Our impact guys are in the lower minors and none of them got to play. Not very surprising

Kinda hard to get a real good handle on their list. Had there been games in 2020, I could see both Catchers and Ball garnering support to be placed on the list, but the high upside position guys (Harris and Grissom) don't have the high pick status on their resumes that would have been needed for them to be considered. Muller's control issues will likely always keep him off of lists like this, and Shuster has to show that his velo spike is sustainable before he'll draw any attention.

Contreras not there is interesting. I thought he showed enough at the MLB level last year to show he's a top 100 guy. Maybe not a star, but that swing with avg defense is a MLB starter for 5+ year IMO.

These lists are going to be total BS this year since there is not much to go on from last year's list. You just have guys, like Anderson and Pache, who played some at MLB but are still prospects plus new draft picks and rumors from alternative sites.

Waters pretty high on the BS list.

Not really concerned about the BA list. Also, didn't Anderson burn his rookie eligibility?

Yes but I thought time was prorated this year? Or does that not apply to rookies.

Service time was prorated which is different than rookie eligibility.

The only constraints for that are 130 abs, 50 innings pitched, or 45 days on the active roster before Sept callups. If you go over any of those then you are done.

The change to 2020 was that days on the roster after Sept actually counted towards the 45 days on the active roster.

If Anderson had won the ROY award in 2020 he would still technically be a rookie in 2021 but would not be eligible to win again.

Braves land five prospects on Baseball Prospectus' Top 101 list: https://www.baseballprospectus.com/prospects/article/64061/2021-prospects-the-top-101/

5) Ian Anderson; 18) Cristian Pache; 40) Drew Waters; 62) Kyle Muller; 81) Shea Langeliers

Wow. Why is Pache so low? Why is Muller an Langeliers so high? Why not Contreras?

Am I off on Contreras? I wanted him on the post season roster last year b/c I'd rather he hit than most of our bench players. I know it was a small sample size, and I'm not sure he has the swing for large HR totals, but I was really impressed with him.

Pache already proved to me the defense is a legit 70, maybe more. I'm not sure how much he'll hit, but his approach looked good.

A top-20 prospect isn't exactly low and the Braves just have sky-high expectations. For as great as his defense is, and as toolsy of a player as Pache is, his bat is still a legitimate concern.

If he doesn't hit, I think he's a good, not great prospect.

Valid.

And his play was a SSS. I just thought he looked like a guy that had quality at bats in the playoffs.

I'm not expecting an impact bat, but based on what I saw I think he's a league avg bat.

Pitching prospects are always higher rated than defense minded ones. I dont have access to the list but would be curious as to how many pitchers are ahead of Pache.

floor is taken into account, tho, and his floor is pretty high. it's not the silly 3-WAR floor someone stated a year or so ago, but it's still pretty high. i think he's safely better than #18, and he is in most places. but it's not like it actually matters.

Like I said, once those 3 lose eligibility the farm system is going to be bottom 10. Team desperately needs a change in approach to drafting.
