2022 Elections

My conclusion didn’t really change based on last night - DeSantis vs (D) means 2024 will be about Joe Biden’s terrible record; Trump vs (D) means 2024 will be about Trump. There’s no guaranteed path to victory, but the former is a heck of a lot more favorable than the latter for (R)’s chances.

Hard to argue this as of today.

As a recently moved out of Florida observer I will give you the quick
post election analysis of DeSantis win.
He was an incumbent running against a former (R) Governor
with virtually no base

DeSantis is this years model of Rick Perry.
The Great White Hope

he can win the Confederacy ( Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia maybe, SC, NC etc) but how well will he play in middle America ?
you know where there are people

Who should (R) nominate in 2024 to give themselves the best chance to win?

Desantis

The problem is trump is gonna trash desantis, and turn a lot of his supporters against Ron. If the Dems could somehow disqualify trump, it would help the right a ton

Yep, Trump will go full scorched earth if he loses. He will attempt to tank the Republican nominee just so he can say "I would have won".

At least it looks like Arizona and Nevada are going to break republican. Overall a disappointing night but if Walker can win in the run off it takes some sting off.

Maybe another two years of disaster will wake some more people up but based on the voting patterns after the first two years of this regime I have my doubts.

They’re not breaking Republican dude

The margin on desantis victory is a function of republicans from around the country moving to Florida. I think this fact will eventually be understood and the desantis wave will wane over time.

I dont buy that comparison. Rick Perry is dumb as a sack of doorknobs. DeSantis is actually smart, regardless of what anyone thinks about him.

Smart has nothing to do with it.
The national perception of DeSantis as a 2 years out national candidate
is very similar to the perception Perry as a 2 years out national candidate.

Remains to be seen how DeSantis plays with the big boys.

I know my perception needs to change when I partially agree with 57. I apologize to the forum for my transgressions.

Arizona results so far are very close to the 2020 election. Hobbs winning the 2 most populous counties an 3 of the top 4. The one Karen Lake is winning already has 92% reporting. Hobbs lead in Maricopa county is almost twice the margin Biden won by in 2020. The second most populous county, Pima county, Hobbs's margin so far increased 5% over 2020. Only 52% reporting there so likely lots of votes left for her there. Looking good in Arizona for the good guys.

You need to read the last two pages of this thread and then think about your partial agreement again. Dude is either completely insane or a parody.

Lake is the overwhelming favorite right now.

I believe that the margin of desantis victory will create incorrect conclusions. I also think he won’t play as well as people think outside of the Florida electorate.
