2022 MLB Draft Thread

Prospects Live actually has him at #191 overall. Writeup: A smaller, twitchy middle infielder by trade, Keller has quietly developed into one of the more exciting prep pitching prospects available on day two in the draft. Keller has an explosive delivery with a bit of effort, but the athleticism is jaw-dropping and the arm is super quick. Up to 95, Keller primarily sits 90-93 and holds his velocity deep into outings. His fastball explodes at the plate with late hop and deception. He throws a firm, hard slider in the upper 70s with two plane break and plenty of sweep. He's shown feel for a change and a loopier curveball as well. If a team believes in the starter traits here moving forward, Keller could go as high as the third round.

And a tweet from one of their writers: A sneaky good get for the #Braves with Seth Keller. Really like the arm talent. Had him a Top 150 guy. Another quick arm guy with a fastball that pops. Feel for a slider and changeup. Kind of burst onto the scene this spring.

He's also an Old Dominion signee, so hopefully won't have to break the bank here.

On-brand again.

I meant savings with Baldwin & McCabe.

I wouldn’t be surprised if, like you mentioned upthread, we don’t see the big savings we initially expected on Burkhalter.

I was late to the dance today, so I misread your initial post. Didn't see the Baldwin pick.

Oregon RHP Adam Maier is the 7th rounder. Prospects Live writer: Wow. The #Braves grab Oregon RHP Adam Maier. Might be a tough sign. Just had UCL stabilization surgery. Most expected him back at school. Will be an over-slot. Had Top-3 round buzz in spring. Can really spin it.

Maier is #154 overall in the Baseball America rankings. People seem to really like it. Up to 96 with two really good spin rate breaking balls. A lot of be intrigued by there.

If he doesn't sign, the hit to the pool isn't that rough.

10th Round: Andrew Keck, catcher from SE Missouri State.

We now have the catchers from each of the directional schools from the southern half of the Show-Me State.

Curious to see the bonuses for Rounds 8 through 10. Not a lot of savings to go underslot, but my guess is every nickel is being squeezed until Jefferson cries.

My problems with the first pick aside, I really like this draft overall. Lots of tools, lots of high ceilings. That's what I like to see.

The only thing that hurts is how close we were to getting Collier to fall into our laps... probably would have pissed me off and passed on him anyways

The Braves seem to be targeting pitchers with low release points and good rise on the heater. That seems to be the flavor of the month in terms of optimal fastball shape. The low release point coupled with good rise appears to have even more rise as a result.
