2022 Trade Deadline

AA did what I wanted him to do. He went out and locked up a closer. You have to think Iglesias will be an even better pitcher getting away from the Angels organization.

I had hoped it would be someone cheaper like Bednar though.

Iglesias is really good. But 3/48m isn’t cheap.

This all but guarantees Jansen was a one year thing.

We signed Jansen for 18 for 1 year already having Smith at 13 for the season so who knows. Jansen will be a year older so maybe he’ll take a little less to come back if he likes it here.

BP as of today for next year looks like: Lee, Minter, Matzek, Iglesias, McHugh, and Yates. You can build on that. I doubt we sign Jansen unless he'd sign for super cheap.

3x16 million for the mid 30s of a relief pitcher worries me.

There goes some payroll flexibility moving forward.

I basically just watch the Braves so I don’t know anything on the guy.

Some yeah, bowman has speculated we could be a top 5 payroll team soon. Battery must be raking in the dollars.

It is also worth considering that we could trade Iglesias in the off-season. There will be teams that falter down the stretch that will feel like they need a closer.

I kind of wonder if AA simply looked at the state of the farm system and decided we couldn't afford to give up any prospects of value, so he was going to mostly sit out the trade deadline.

Probably so. I look at a lot of the deals and I have a difficult time putting together Braves' minor league comps for the guys who were traded? But taking a stab at it, would we trade Grissom and Muller for Mahle? Would we trade Tavarez to rent Drury? We had already traded our wild card who we may have been able to trick someone into taking (Waters) so we don't really have any position players in AAA who were enticing and we lack depth in our lower minors. I think that severely limited what we could put together.

Credit to the front office for getting Iglesias. Big contract, but very low acquisition cost.

Only guy whose price surprised me was Merrifield. I thought he'd cost the Jays a lot more.

If Grossman hasn't hit a performance wall, I do like the pick-up. He's not a very good fielder, but he hits LHP and he's had a better career than Drury. Maybe it's come together for Drury, but if the history of baseball has taught fans anything, it's that just about anyone can have a season well outside their previous norm.

Anthopoulos on Iglesias deal: “Came together really late, with like two minutes to go.” #Braves

Just going through some of the trades. Kind of surprised at the Bader for Montgomery deal. Not sure about the Yankees giving up a starter, but what do I know?

What the heck were the Red Sox and Cubs doing today?
