2024 Field

There is an interesting question raised in this post, but it is not addressed in a meaningful way.

If we wanted to see the trend for millenials, we wouldn't compare a landslide (2008) with a fairly close election (2020)

What I would do is look at the millenial vote relative to every else for the last 6 or so elections and see if there is a trend.

Or maybe its extremely telling of where the Democrat party has gone since Obama ran in 2008.

I was a self identified Democrat then when I pulled the lever for him.

Anyone looking at exit polls, here is how the 18-29 age group broke (relative to the rest of the population)

2000 +1% Gore
2004 +12% Kerry
2008 +17% Obama
2012 +19% Obama
2016 +15% Clinton
2020 +18% Biden

The idea is that young people make bad decisions.

Not sure what else is being discussed.

"If you're a Republican before 30 you don't have a heart. If you're a Democrat after 30 you don't have a brain"

Btw if you wanted to make a claim about a group maturing over time you would need to look at the 18-29 group in a particular year and then the same group 8 years older 8 years later, 12 years older 12 years later, etc. That's not what I did, and that's not what the tweet did. So the question of a particular cohort changing (either in absolute terms or relative to the rest of the electorate) is a different (and also interesting) question.

I think the original quote is from Churchill: “If you’re not a liberal when you’re 25, you have no heart. If you’re not a conservative by the time you’re 35, you have no brain.”

But see my post above, which addresses the fact there are two distinct questions which need to be looked in different ways.

Let me see if I can give it a crack

In 2004 the 18-29 group was +9% Kerry (and +12 Kerry relative to the overall outcome)

In 2012 the 30-39 group was +13 Obama (and +9 Obama relative to the overall outcome)

In 2020 the 40-49 group was was +10 Biden (and +6 Biden relative to the overall outcome)

There are a lot of moving parts here, but this will do for a rough first pass.

That was so ****ing funny.

Do they think that ad helps them?

Florida is the best place to live in the country now.

I love how they frame *not locking people down* as the dystopia

Imagine living with this much fear

It's terrifying. And I say that as someone who got the vaccine the first day it was available, and who still wears a mask to all of the few public places I go.

You're right. It's funny if it ended there. But the fear and hysteria is leading to unimaginable consequences here and abroad that will be very difficult to undo.

That is the best case scenario

There aint no putting the genie back in the bottle. Thats for sure...

Denmark (with its covid passport and mask mandate) says hello

it will be very interesting monitoring the slippery slope argument over the coming months

a year from now it will all seem very quaint...the case of a few overly anxious people letting their imaginations run wild

i remind everyone that during WWII is was a crime to leave the lights on at night or to drive around with the car's headlights on...fortunately those forms of tyranny are no longer with us

Sure fella. As you cheer on the mass firing of people.

No slope here!

What a clown

I love the idea that these measures are temporary when in closed environments where there is almost 100% vaccination restrictions are still in place and only getting worse.

The number of people making the choice your friend is making is small and getting smaller. Most people have enough common sense not to jump off the ledge because of some weird homicidal ideology.
