I disagree with saying he "deserted" his men. He was 41 yrs old and in the National Guard, which should have never been in Iraq in the first place.

Facts are that I'm following trendlines (honeymoon period) and what experts are saying. Facts are that many of the polls are oversampling dems. Facts are that betting markets are flaky and have a tendency to follow polls.

His Wiki page says he was never in a combat zone, that he served for 6 months in Italy and did not go with his unit to Iraq. I guess you could say that in a sense he "deserted" his unit, but that would be unfair. On the other hand, would it be accurate to say that National Guard units were being told they were only being used in "security" situations, not direct combat?
