2024 Field

We’ll see about Vance. It would be interesting to see how an intellectual appeal to populism plays.

He lacks in spades in the charisma department. He’d have to ride the wave of a strong economy to win in 2028.

The problem I find with Vance is that I don’t think that shit is gonna work at all. He doesn’t have any good arguments for the stupid shit Trump is doing, so the intellectual approach comes across as empty and sneering to me at least. He’d have to be boosted by Trump or Trump would need to have just died for me to think he can succeed as a candidate.

He did pretty well in the Veep debate. But some of that is Walz was pathetic.

But yea… the “sneering” remark is quite apt. The constant calls for people to say thank you is cringe

I also doubt Vance would be able to pull off the “art of the deal” vibe that Trump can. At this point, the best thing you can say about Trump’s tariff policy is he has successfully negotiated nice concessions from other countries. No shot Vance could do the same.

The crazy thing to me is that Walz had the juice for a few weeks last summer, then by the time the debate rolled out he was just Northern Tim Kaine. Not saying the Dems would have beat Trump without whatever the hell he/they did to him on the campaign trail, but it was baffling. Equally baffling is how bad he’s gotten at his own briefly successful shtick.

I think politicians like Vance are basically the ultimate victims of the MAGAfication of the Republican Party. You used to be able to run dudes like him out to half-heartedly appeal to the rural voters he grew up with *and* the core base that saw his intelligence and pedigree and saw an adult in the room. But now the whole party seemingly operates on vibes in the same way the Democrats have after 2008.

Oh you mean by not support empty vessels that lie to their voters and don’t give them what they want? Thats what we should go back to?

You’re the one attributing this set of qualities I didn’t invoke to JD Vance, for the record.

But no, I do not weep for the fall of this brand of politician. I don’t prefer the new option of I’m just going to use EOs to get around that pesky Constitution politicians either, but I’d certainly not welcome Paul Ryan back with open arms. If I may make a suggestion, we could just nominate and elect boring, practical policy-wonks and humble, effective leaders that want to make the government about the people instead of them?

That time May in fact be coming. Trump broke the old mold to bring in the new.
