2024 Field

Federal deficit:

2015 $442 billion
2016 $585 billion
2017 $665 billion
2018 $779 billion
2019 $984 billion

was also headed higher in 2020 even before covid hit

even before covid that doesn't look like a sustainable path...far from it

The lack of military spending during Obama's time was unsustainable too. Our enemies caught up with us technology- wise (in some areas higher) during this time. Catch-22.

The defense budget rose $150 billion from 2015 to 2019.

The deficit rose by $540 billion during the same period.

He spent a lot of money but his presidency had the biggest drop-off in military spending in modern history. Yes, that can be blamed on the republicans as well.

It’s almost as if we were slowly winding down from an active and costly war.

Obamas first 3 years of setting the budget.

2010- 738.018 billion - 4.92% of GDP
2011- 752.29 billion - 4.84% of GDP
2012- 725.21 billion - 4.48% of GDP

Trumps only 3 years setting the budget

2018- 682.49 billion - 3.32% of GDP
2019- 734.34 billion - 3.43% of GDP
2020- 778.23 billion - 3.74% of GDP

Who rebuilt the military exactly?

Very selective of you. Now do the missing years you have there.

However did the military even survive on a paltry $633 billion? Not to mention that even at our lowest figures, the % to GDP was still higher than Trump.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t have Obama didn’t spend enough money killing middle eastern people on my Trump defense bingo card, but I probably should have.

2013- 679.23 billion 4.05% of GDP
2014- 647.79 billion 3.70% of GDP
2015- 633.86 billion 3.44% of GDP
2016- 639.86 billion 3.42% of GDP
2017- 646.75 billion 3.31% of GDP

Almost exactly the same % of GDP spent on the military. Trumps 3 years setting the military budget was the barely higher than the % Obama spent in his last 3 years. Only 2020 for Trump eclipsed the high point in spending by Obama on the military. For comparison GWB spent only 378 billion his first year setting the budget. Obamas highest 3 years in spending was a full 1% more in terms of GDP that Trumps highest.

If you two want to use the % of GDP argument you know you do have to admit Trump's economy was better then Obama's, right?

Job growth (non-farm payrolls)

2013 2.3 million
2014 3.0 million
2015 2.7 million
2016 2.3 million
2017 2.1 million
2018 2.3 million
2019 2.0 million

I am fine with using total dollars spent. Obama spent more than Trump in their first 3 years even though Trumps years were 8 years later. Obama doubled what Bush was spending his first 3 years 8 years later. Trump just maintained Obama's spending level. We will never know what years 4 though 8 of spending would have been for Trump, that's why I dont use those years for comparison, but it was only a marginal increase from Obama's last 3 years to Trumps first 3 anyways.

Just face it, Trump lied about the state of the military..

Most of the job "growth" during Obama's time was jobs coming back from the recession.

Which is the opposite of what Republicans said would happen at the time. They said Obama's policies would turn a recession into a great depression. When the economy improved instead they said "yeah well it's too slowly improving".

I think we need a flow chart to help explain how any good economy is thanks to Republican leadership and a bad economy is due to Democratic leadership regardless of who is in charge.

The issue isnt arresting/prosecuting those committing the violence its using those people as an excuse to beat up and then prosecute the peaceful protesters. When cops storm into a crowd and start beating people up indiscriminately it's going to lead to violence by the protesters too. That's just fighting back.

Lol now we are worried about violence?

I remember cities burning during the summer of
Love

I am personally always worried about the state executing its citizens. Getting rid of due process and applying it to new types of crime would be a pretty steep elevation.
