I don’t really care that Ronny is going after Disney. I have never cared for the culture war politics. I don’t think it meaningfully changes anyone’s life.

But I do find it odd how many people are just straight up Disney apologists. They are as gross and heartless as the next corporation. If Ron can justify that Florida is better off removing their protected status then he’s justified.

Having said that --- I have been following politics since early 60s and have never seen a candidate that had a nomination sewn up ---- the nomination his/hers to lose and then unforced error after unforced error proceed to just do that, lose.

All he had to do was keep his head down and keep his mouth shut
He lost nationally to Trump

Most people realize that Desantis is grandstanding and find it humorous. Him opening a state prison by disney will destroy any moral ground he has, but also probably state tourism. I find it funny because it really seems like politicians today are willing to do something so clearly stupid just to win points on twitter.

Republican party is in a weird spot.

If they truly don't want Donald, they should be actively encouraging people to not run. Donald won because ther'es about 25% of the republican base who he's their god. They will vote for him if he walked into their house raped their significant other and left.

But that's totally against what the republican primaries have been.

Now these are polls from 2 different pollsters. But a recent poll has Desantis beating Biden in Pennsylvania by 3 but a primary poll has Trump beating Desantis by 6. And it's largely because the R primary will be Trump vs. the field and the wider the field is the easier Trump's path to victory is. He won that way in 2016, and he is even more solidified now.

I still think the biggest miss for the R party is by getting away from the candiates who's entire platform is basically that they're "anti-PC" and not going for someone more centrist like a Sununu, etc. RDS has a decent shot of keeping the never trumpers away.
 
If DeSantis wanted to screw Disney he should be a little more creative and put a sewage treatment plant next door and give them a bunch of environmental waivers.

If they ran that election tomorrow, Desantis v Crist the outcome would be the same if not worse.
Ever seen Florida outside of Miami or Ft Lauderdale ?

They have a long history of voting against their interests
based on what chop called "culture war" politics
going back to post WWII
understand that the politics that play in rebel states rarely if ever transfer to national.

DeSantis had the Never Trumpers. The Log Cabin, the Lincoln Project & the RINO vote before he wouldn't keep his mouth shut.
Discount the ideology of those group all you want but that was/is a considerable voting bloc.
