2024 Payroll

Gonzalez traded. Seems like a wash on the salary. Curious how the luxury hit is accounted for if we're sending cash back.

I would think it's gotta be a wash if we're also getting cash from Seattle. Otherwise, the MLB would be "double dipping" in terms of luxury tax calculations. 4.5 million from Seattle and assuming the same 4.5 million from Atlanta going to Pitt. That leaves 7.75 million left for Pitt to pay and they would carry the full luxury tax burden of that 7.75 mil.

So the consensus is the Braves just sent gonzo plus the cash from the Ms to Pitt? If so I’ll just delete him and not worry about any other accounting.

Not reported how much cash we're sending out. If it's like 4-5 then the player coming back is probably nothing. If it's a decent chunk, like 6.5-8M then we may get something more than a lottery ticket.

Nothing concrete, but it just seems logical.

Seems like the thought after trade was that the Braves might have to kick in more than the cash they got to move him.

I'd be surprised if it's just like 4.5, would figure around 6-7M or more. Hope if it's the latter, we get more than a lottery ticket coming back.

Payroll in the OP updated as best I can remember, though I may have missed a move.

AA still needs to get a SP, and the bench is pretty terrible.

A terrible bench might not much of an issue considering Snit has demonstrated a complete inability to utilize bench players. Still, I'd like to see a CF-capable RHH hitter added. Perhaps someone like Grichuk?

There are other player related costs that count towards the cap. The Braves are well above the first cap level and are bumping up near the second level.

Braves, Fried settle at $15m, avoid arbitration

Spotrac estimated $21.6m so this seems like a nice break.
