So he's struck out the last 3 times ('24 deadline, '25 offseason, and '25 deadline). Is this making him look better?

I honestly would only call the offsesaon last year a 'strikeout'. The 24 team had quite a few injuries that I'm not sure trying to bring in a bunch of guys to patch the holes was the smartest idea. And the 25 team was just bad/hurt and I don't think moving Igelasias for a 45 FV prospect was going to save it like some people around here think.
It's clear he fucked up regarding SP depth last year. AA has a history of course correcting pretty quick when the team has an issue.

he is 28 with a very good pedigree pre leg amputation. I would risk 5-10 million on him as well. I mean AA does nothing but look for guys who are cheap but could return to 'form' (Kelenic, Lopez, sale, Soler, duvall, on and on and on) Soroka would have seemed like a no brainer signing for him.
I think not giving AA credit for the Sale trade is insane. It was a wildly successful trade, no matter how easy or obvious it looks. He deserves credit for finding it and making it.
A valid criticism, however, would be that AA seems risk averse to the point that unless it’s an extremely obvious win, he won’t do it. The Murphy trade is a glaring hiccup in that thought, but otherwise any FA signings or deals he makes he seems to always come out clearly on top, and hunting for those deals is fine, but it seems to sometimes prevent him from making moves that would improve the club. Maybe the Murphy trade made him even more gun shy.

I haven't seen the money yet, but the Dbacks needed someone. I'm sure he got a nice chunk.

I think he may have taken a flyer if we didn't already have an entire rotation and part of the BP full of injury concerns. That's why I like Bassitt bc he eats innings.
Just like the $9m(iirc) last year was too much for a team like Atlanta to give him, $7.5m is too much as well. I’d rather have given PJ $7m. It made sense for a team like the Nats last year. Maybe he’s healthy and pitches really well and you buy a decent prospect at the deadline. I hope AA’s sights are set higher and in more reliable places.

Giving out 7 million guaranteed to a guy that has barely thrown 200 innings in 5 years and wasn't particularly good in those 200 innings doesn't seem like an especially smart move, unless we are planning on payroll being like 260+ million. If we were short on cash AND our rotation didn't already have 6-7 options (or more) who were better than Soroka, I could see this move making sense for us.

Around 7 million with incentives. Not a huge gamble, but it's more than I expected him to get.
I now wonder what Dustin May will get, since they have essentially been the same pitcher up to this point. I was thinking he might look good in the pen if he came cheap enough. Now, I am not so sure he will come cheap at all.

Who the hell isn’t giving him credit? It was a great trade. He saw something other teams didn’t, even if it wasn’t considered a "big trade" when it happened. AA is a really good GM and borderline elite. But this is now two straight years where the team clearly needed quality depth, and he didn't do enough to address it and it hurt the team throughout the season.
Let’s hope he keeps adding around the edges (he’s done well so far with the minor-league signings and with Dubón and Iggy) and finally goes after some real impact names to round out the roster.

AA does deserve credit for the Sale trade and there was risk in that trade.. no in what the Braves lost but in what has already happened (Sale missing the postseason and a big chunk of last year) due to injury... but that risk didn't diminish the trade.. it just highlighted why the Soxs were ok with parting ways so easily.
as far as Soroka.. yes I don't think a team like the Braves should be giving him a contract.. but that is AA MO and it seems like the perfect guy to get.. If AA is looking for another rehab, bounce back guy.. I like Soroka a lot. But I would much rather have a rotation of more 'reliable' starters..

AA had a presser yesterday and sounds like the Braves are not going to be adding a DH this offseason. Prefers to be able to swap guys in and out of the DH spot throughout the season. I'm okay with that. But we still need to replace Ozunas bat, definitely need at least 1 starting pitcher, and 1-2 high leverage bullpen arms IMO.

yeah, I think most of baseball is going that way.. just a better way to build a lineup.. but he needs to add another IF or OF to be able to do that. and NOT some light hitting or fringe prospect guy that might figure it out.. get a legit MLB player please

The main risk in the Sale trade was wasting 16 million and relying on an aging pitcher that hadn't been "good" or healthy since 2018 to be one of your 4 best pitchers in 2024, behind Strider, Fried, and presumably Morton.
The risk was pretty substantial that he wouldn't be good or healthy and that a WS caliber team would be panicking at the deadline trying to find a SP with not a ton of payroll flexibility.

AA deserves all the combined credit of the trio of moves he made at that time. Sale obviously worked out amazingly. Lopez also worked out amazingly, but him getting swept up in the extension epidemic should be questioned. Kelenic was a reasonable gamble, and it crapped out.
All in all, those 3 gambles worked out pretty well overall, and represent the last time AA appeared competent. There's been a lot of incompetence since.
We also had stacked teams in 22 and 23 that were wasted by Snit’s inept management.
He made good deadline deals too.
As much as we all love to shit on Snit. And I certainly was not a fan. He's not the reason those teams forgot how to hit and the reason Fried and Strider seemingly can't pitch in the playoffs.
