2025-2026 offseason thread

9.5 million is not very good value for a guy like Bummer. I think we'll need to eat a little to move him.

We didn't think Pierce Johnson was worth 7 million, and he's a better pitcher than Bummer.
Bummer might be a good enough lefty reliever that a richer team might give us a $1 scratch off ticket for him and take his whole salary. If used correctly, Bummer isn't horrible.. just never used right here and he shouldn't be a high leverage reliever unless it is against 2 lefties.

Between Wentz, Waldrep, and Holmes that is 3 guys currently on the roster who can provide similar or better production than Elder. Then you have prospects on the 40 man like Ritchie and Fuentes who certainly have the raw talent to be better than Elder, though maybe "expecting" them to be better than him right away is a big ask.

Again, the Braves have to be thinking about winning and not saving pitchers to get to the post season.. They did that 2 years ago and had to fight to the last day to get into the WC round. putting Waldrep in AAA so you can use Elder IN CASE of an injury is just doing the same damn thing.. Put your best guys out there and deal with whatever happens WHEN it happens.

I know it's a super long shot but we'll need another good lefty in the rotation next year if Sale is gone. Skubal js a FA and with the money we would have we could chase him.
We do technically have the money for him but Skubal's contract will be like 400+M or more. Or something like 8 years, 300 to 350M.

I agree the Braves COULD have made those moves, but it's pretty clear AA is trying to go bigger in the rotation. Makes sense to me that he'd hold off. He could easily grab Pierce Johnson and be fine

Dang. I REALLY liked Pomeranz. I thought he was one of the best arms on the market when FA started. That is super cheap. It's hard to believe he didn't have a bigger market than that, even with 2025 being his first MLB action in over 3 years. He was pretty dominant.

He's from TN as well, so it isn't like he's taking less money to play for a hometown team.

here is the probable 13 if the season started today. I think the pen will need another arm or two emerge, because you can't have Dodd, Wentz, and Elder in the same pen..

I think wild cards to break camp and bump one or two of these guys are (Daysbel, Payamps, Burkhalter, Karinchak, Hayden H., or Lara)
