2025-2026 offseason thread

The Shane Baz trade does complicate things a bit on the trade front. The Orioles were so dumb. And now teams are gonna point to that deal as the basis for what their SP is worth.

With Doubon not starting I guess we have the position versatlity to use Ozuna as a PH and occasional starter at DH. Odds are injuries will get him plenty of at bats.

I think most baseball players don’t take offseason fitness as serious with the exception of someone like Freddie. Guy like Ozuna who’ve already made millions don’t really take care of themselves as much and just go in to spring hoping their skills and talent will carry them at that age.

Who did the Braves trade for with Malloy. I was one that thought he could have been a better 4th outfielder than white. Oops.
Braves got Jimenez for LHP Jake Higginbotham and Malloy. Higginbotham is in the San Diego system in 2025 and is now a minor league free agent. Atlanta area HS grad who played college ball at Clemson.

Malloy can't play anywhere in the field and his K-rate has soared during his ascent to the major leagues. Career K-rate of 32.8% in 357 major league PAs (37.0%/230 PAs in 2024 and 25.7%/127 PAs in 2025). 8 HRs in 2024 and 1 HR in 2025. Solid walk rate in both seasons (15.7% in 2025).

Even just for the year if Jimenez, it was a solid trade. Would be nice to make a similar one for a BP piece.

I think Braves' fans were looking at Malloy's walk rate and decent minor league power numbers and thinking he might end up being at least a good bench piece. I seem to remember Keith Law thought he was one of the better hitting prospects in the Arizona Fall League in 2022 (right before the Braves traded him). But like they used to say about one edition of the San Francisco Giants' IF way back when. When asked "Why are the Giants' infielders like Michael Jackson?" The answer was "They both wear a glove for no apparent reason."
