2025-2026 offseason thread

Trading for Ryan or somebody else would take Ritchie and that would kille any quality depth while improving the rotation. You can't see injuries coming but you can kind of prepare by having good depth. If Waldrep and SS were healthy then the depth AA has acquired would be just fine. AA seems hell bent on having Lopez and Holmes in the rotation so we need one more good SP to carry us until we get healthy. With Elder out of options there is no way he is cut.

I certainly see both sides of this; but there are injuries now, so at the very least, a veteran starter seems like a no-brainer

I mean for Christ's sake, we went and got Jonah Heim to be a backup catcher. We sign every shitty AAAA reliever under the moon who may have had a decent season within the last five years. Apply the same logic for starting pitching.
No one is saying we didn't need pitching 2 weeks ago or that we don't need it now.

The only thing being argued is that somehow we've punted this season even before it started because we didn't get 1 additional pitcher.

So assuming Lopez and Holmes get injured. With SS #2 out and Waldrep likely out for a bit. You think the Braves should have acquired 4 additional starters? At some point it just becomes unrealistic to injury proof a rotation.

And here’s the same old stupid tired excuse. Doing nothing is not justified.

I don't know if it's punting, but it's running a low-percentage play and putting yourself behind the sticks when you used 19 starting pitchers a year ago and did nothing - again. No, Martin Perez on a minor league deal doesn't count.

I agree with the spirit of what you’re getting at, but there’s a realistic number between 0 and 4 that would have helped.

The problem at the moment is AA’s actions suggest the number is 0 (and he’s a smart and creative GM, so I believe him that it wasn’t for a lack of effort).

Most likely he's trying to get a better option thru trade, and if that fails by a deadline he only knows, he will get one of the remaining starters.

I literally just quoted someone using the “they couldn’t cover 4 injuries no matter what” excuse. Are you mentally challenged?
LMAO. What was sad was truth fact.

Do you think the Dodgers have strong contingencies on their 40 man roster for 4 of their best starting pitchers to go down for the entire season? You are an idiot if you think so.

Again, you have been bitching incessantly about how we haven't added a starter. How would adding Paul Skenes right this very minute mitigate the loss 4 pitchers who believe are all likely to miss significant time?

He may be smart, but I no longer have faith in his effectiveness. He’s now failed to address obvious injury risk in the rotation too many times.

Adding zero SP help is not justified now that injuries have predictably hit extremely injury prone pitchers. This logic people are attempting to use is laughably poor.

Nobody would argue otherwise.

Name 1 person who has stated doing nothing is justified.

If you’re too stupid to see how moronic the logic behind “he couldn’t cover 4 injuries so it doesn’t matter he made zero SP additions” is, you’re a dipshit we can all safely ignore.
