2025-2026 offseason thread

You'll have to excuse the board for thinking this

Was an overly emotional response.

Nothing about the early offseason suggests AA has the $100M we were hoping, and given the awful offseason last year it's fair to start worrying.

So please, be sure to let us all know when it's ok to wonder if AA has less money than we hoped. Until then we will just sit back and cheer on all the non-moves being made like good little boot lickers.
I certainly think it’s ok to wonder about it…you can do that at any time and it will pretty much always be reasonable. Free agency hasn’t even begun. No amount of money available could force Kim to accept his option lol. Declining to pay Tyler fucking kinley $5.5m isn’t an indication of anything related to available money.

I didn't understand a bunch of the late-season moves in/out. Seems like they were auditioning a bunch of guys. Roster was going to be at 41 when all the 60-day DL guys are reinstated, so there will be shedding of guys and there are candidates more likely than Kinley to be shown the door, but those guys aren't set to make $5.5 MM.
I suspect they used the cash saved for trade acquisitions on guys they could evaluate for 2026. That's a reasonable course of action since that cash wasn't going to help in any other way, assuming there were no teams looking to unload contracts plus prospects for salary relief.

Oh, I’m a “boot-licker” now, huh? Despite the fact that I’ve been pretty critical of AA over the last couple years and critical of the Weiss hire
If you’re not panicking over not paying TYLER KINLEY $5.5M to take up a roster spot and likely suck, you’re licking those boots.

You're right. But not extending Kim, letting some BP arms go, and hiring WW as manager doesn't indicate AA is about to drop $100M upgrading the 2026 roster either.

Boras being his agent, what would you have paid to lock down Kim? If Boras asked for 3/$60m to keep him out of FA, are you doing it?

The BP arms let go simply aren’t very good. I really don’t understand this.

You sure do get worked up real nice. Go outside and touch some grass.

It's reasonable for fans to be concerned AA is going to have another terrible offseason, and the early moves have done nothing to ease those concerns.

No idea what Boras wants. Logic isn't flowing today I guess.

Failing to support the affirmative of a point is not the same as supporting the negative of that point. This is basic logic.

Yes. It is of course reasonable to be worried about that…based on the last few offseasons and deadlines. Not based on letting tyler kinley go lol

Your complete inability to be a normal, rational person when you’re worked up is very entertaining, not going to lie

Correct, but it doesn't ease those concerns.

Letting Kinley go doesn't prove AA has no money, but it also doesn't disprove he has no money, and disproving he has no money is what we want to see. Again, basic logical reasoning.

Who exactly are you arguing against? Your imagination again?

Who is trying to disprove he has no money…?

Here’s my argument, I think it’s pretty simple:

I have no idea if AA has the money I’ve been hoping he has. I am of the opinion that failure to extend Kim, a Boras client, doesn’t necessarily give me any indication either way. Who knows what Boras was asking for to keep Kim out of FA? Extremely possible it was unreasonable.

I am also of the opinion that declining to retain two mid at best relief pitchers for a combined total of $12.5m provides solid indication of nothing other than AA didn’t feel those two were worth it.

At not point have I tried to prove AA does in fact have the money I hope he has. Hope this helps.

I'm still scarred because we spent the beginning of last year's offseason convincing ourselves that declining d'Arnaud's option and restructuring Lopez and Bummer was because we were preparing to spend a ton of money. But it turned out those moves were made because we just didn't have much of it.

I think it's perfectly reasonable for people to be hesitant with their optimism because today's events feel eerily similar to the way last offseason started.
