2025-2026 offseason thread

yeah I think this CBA lock out will be a contentious one that might shut down the entire 2027 season.. there is no way the sport can survive with one team doubling salary over half the league and doing in a way that they are gaming some of the rules that try to prevent the over spending. and on the other foot having 5-10 teams with a sub 100 million salary and not even trying to build a competitive team.. it is bad business.

Yeah, it's a problem. But the players are OK with it, and the Dodgers' revenue model makes it no problem to pay.

Realistically it's a problem for certain fan bases. Players don't care. I would say most teams don't care. General fans don't care. We just had one of the most watched World Series in years. Attendance per game league wide is high at 29 million.

This is really only a big issue for hardcore fans of certain teams that are competing with the Dodgers. Sadly the Braves are one of those teams. But by and large it's not hurting the sport at all and most people don't care.

The Padres supposedly open to trading Tatis Jr because money is tight and many of their big contracts are untradeable. Now I know it wont happen but we could theoretically take back Bogarts whole contract. He is still a decent SS. So he fills SS as a 2-3 WAR player for 2-4 more years. Tatis even with Bogarts is around 50 million a year. For a quality SS for a few years and a franchise player like Tatis is a good deal. Not a steal. But how much pitching would we even need with that offense. Acuna and Tatis for atleast 3 years together if not more.

Tatis would certainly fill the OF spot so that Acuna/Profar can rotate through DH.

That being said. Do we really want to become the Atlanta Athletic Padres?

Not no, but hell no.

Tatis is not that great of a hitter since coming off the roids. His value now is largely wrapped up in being simply a good hitter, playing great defense and swiping bags. 2 of those things aren't likely to age well. He isn't near good enough of a player to warrant taking on that horrendous Bogaerts contract.

Now if we're talking about trading for Tatis by himself, that's a different story. But his contract also creates some issues long term.

There's just no way the Braves pay the asking price. You're looking at a current player or two, plus two or three high-end prospects.
They sold everything off at the deadline so it'll be awhile before they compete so I doubt it would be anybody in the current roster other than Waldrep and I'd trade him for Ryan in a second. If the rumors are true that Buxton refused to waive his NTC and we were after him then I'm guessing we were far enough along that they approached Buxton about it.
