2025-2026 offseason thread

I would prefer to be able to keep Baldwin from being behind the plate more than 3x per week. Keep his body young. Catch a couple, take a day off, catch another, DH, repeat. Hi bat looks too good to make a victim of bad knees or hips. Add a decent or better SS and this roster is deep with injury replacements and platoon advantages.

But if Murphy could be a big part of getting Seager then sign me up.

Another good depth signing that the team has been needing. No more Eli White's hopefully. Getting Kim back would really shore up the position player side of the team. No idea what kind of funds are left.

I don't think they spend on Yaz if they are strapped. Especially still needing a SS, SP, and RP

- Innings eater to keep some swing men in the BP.
- SS
That’s all I’m really after at this point.

Is there any SS out there that would platoon well with Dubon? The Braves have seen a lot of guys fall on their face lately and gotten no production from that spot. A way to guard against that is a platoon, and we know AA likes to go all in on course corrections.

AJSS for Jordan lawlar? Who says no? Would having to wait on AJSS kill this one?

Maybe a Richie for lawlar deal would make more sense for both teams.

I think the most interesting thing about this team is all the external misconceptions. This is still a really good core, arguably an elite one when healthy. They just did not add the pieces needed to withstand injuries and underperformance last season. I genuinely believe that adding a solid starting pitcher, a reliable reliever and potentially a shortstop could make them the clear-cut second-best roster in baseball again. They are really not far off.

These moves also should not be surprising to anyone, given that AA has been adding around the edges (minor-league depth) for weeks. Now he has simply started adding quality depth. The bullpen is definitely a liability as of today, but it is only one elite arm away from becoming a strength. The rotation is arguably one of the most talented in baseball, but it lacks durability, so fix that. The offensive depth has largely been addressed and adding a good shortstop like Kim would resolve my remaining concerns.

I also think people are underestimating (1) the value Holmes and Lopez can provide in either the rotation or the bullpen, and (2) the depth and versatility that Wentz and José Suárez bring.

Yes, there are clear injury concerns. But I like what we are seeing, provided AA does not stop here.

An injured AJSS isn't getting Lawler. Waldrep might.

But I don't imagine we would use arguably our most valuable trade piece on an unproven SS, even one as talented as Lawler.

Then they can keep him. Waldrep has had way more success so far.

Lawlar in 42 mlb games...
.165/.241/.237
.235 xwoba
34 wrc+
And he was a negative defender last season.

I would certainly still be interested, but not Waldrep interested

ETA... since I feel so adverse to Waldrep that probably means it's about right value wise. I just really don't wanna let Waldrep walk when he seems to be figuring it out. I think he's gonna be a stud

Again, it would surprise me to us trade for him. But I wouldn't let his cup of tea in the majors sway your view of him too much. He is a natural SS that primarily played 2 positions he had little or no experience at. Offensively, 74 PAs isn't enough data to get a read on him, but certainly the EVs weren't super encouraging.

My super lazy analysis is that he is a more athletic Nacho.

Yaz had a 126 wRC+ vs R last season and career 120.

He should preferably never face lefties.

He doesn't have a home split disadvantage so the park might help a little but not sure it will be huge. But would be great if it was.

This seems like exactly the kind of OF depth folks wanted to bring in. It is a reasonable price that still suggests money to spend.

Braves already starting to look like they are deeper.

Same feelings for me on the signing. I don't think Yaz moves the needle much, but he surely is an upgrade in terms of depth.

The other thing this move indicates to me is that AA trusts Weiss to deploy Yaz correctly. Hopefully that happens because I would have a lot more questions if Snit was still running the show.
