You missed the point: bassitt isn't a difference maker. Hell, I don't think he's good. If we're spending money on a starter, I prefer it be someone projected better than elder

I would have loved Valdez on the Braves, but it's fair to argue whether he's worth the AAV, lost No. 26 pick, slot money and third-tier luxury tax implications. That said, I'm completely fine with Bassitt, Quintana, Giolito, Littel or a trade. But a quality SP is still a need for me.
There’s also a player opt out after year 2.

I feel like if he weren't so talented, he'd have to sit out a year. His new catchers are probably REALLY thrilled.
But people want to win, but he can kick rocks.
Catchers work harder than anyone out there. You don't go plunking them in a hissy fit because you can't keep the ball in the yard.

Winning cures all. Douchebags exist on every team. If he pitches well enough and isn't a problem in the locker room, it's a non-issue. But I am certainly glad I don't have to hold my nose and root for a win every 5 days.

IDK, I think there have been times where AA could have easily added a guy but has not in order to keep the chemistry in order.

Wrong. The record arb for a pitcher is $19.7M paid to David Price way back in 2015. Surely the best LH SP on the planet in 2026 should be paid significantly more than the best LH SP on the planet was paid over a decade ago. A simple inflation adjustment turns the 19.7 into 27.2.
I think its a sign they are gonna win the hearing and go all in this year
