2025-2026 offseason thread

Wrong. The record arb for a pitcher is $19.7M paid to David Price way back in 2015. Surely the best LH SP on the planet in 2026 should be paid significantly more than the best LH SP on the planet was paid over a decade ago. A simple inflation adjustment turns the 19.7 into 27.2.
Price was Arb 4. deGrom has the current Arb 3 record at 17 million.

It's almost like salaries for MLB's best players need to increase with inflation and league revenues. Good for Skubal.

$19M was a joke of an offer, no matter how much simps for billionaires want to call it some kind of record while comparing it to other salaries from a decade ago.

For elite performance like Skubal, details like 3rd vs 4th arb year are meaningless.

"shall not limit the ability of a Player or his representative, because of special accomplishment, to argue the equal relevance of salaries of Players without regard to service, and the arbitration panel shall give whatever weight to such argument as is deemed appropriate"

Skubal won 2 straight CYAs, and was very clearly being compared to the other highly paid elite SPs in the sport. It was laughable the Tigers thought $19M was even in the ballpark.

I completely agree with you that it was laughable. I'm astonished that the Tigers didn't submit a higher amount, say 25 or 26 million.they may have had a shot to win if they had.

Personally though, I'd giggle all the way to the bank if someone wanted to pay me 19 million for one year...

Not if you were the best pitcher on the planet and lesser players than you were making twice that amount. This narrative that people wouldn’t want to be paid their actual value is just as silly as simping for billionaires.

I got a serial numbered Skubal first Bowman autograph a few years ago. Man… please let this guy stay healthy and dominate. The card is already sky rocketing.

I said that in jest.

I don't simp for anyone...certainly not for billionaires.
