The Brewers-Red Sox trade opened up a spot at 3B for the Brewers, and they have a ton pitching. Seems like a good match with Nacho and prospects.
I don't think so. I believe the reason they were willing to part with Durbin in the first place is because they had a bottleneck of middle infielders. Ortiz and Turang are already their projected starters at SS and 2b this year, and then they have:
Jesus Made, who is their top SS prospect and is somewhat likely to be called up this year
Jett Williams, who is MLB ready and can play SS, CF, or 2b.
Andrew Fischer, who was their 1st round pick out of Tennessee this past draft and plays 3b
Cooper Pratt, a top 100 prospect that plays SS. He will likely see time in Milwaukee this year.
Brock Wilken, who was their 1st round pick in 2023 and plays 3b, though his hit tool is non existent.
And they also have Luis Pena and Brady Ebel who are highly regarded SS's, but are probably 2-3 years away.
If the Brewers are indeed looking for a 3b, it's probably going to be more of a MLB vet on 1 year deal that isn't going to block any of these guys already in their system. But I think it may be more likely that just roll with what they got and shift some guys around.
