2025-2026 offseason thread

In the days of yore, when 50Poundhead was a young man on the make and MLB teams had deep benches, a guy like Smith could make a lot of sense as an endgame bench bat and pinch hitter. These days, it's hard to see how he fits on a thin bench and on a team with a first baseman who plays 162 games a year. But seems definitely worth a spring training invite.
Doesn’t hurt to try - neither does bringing in 1-2 of the remaining free agent starting pitchers.

Damn, Pablo Lopez likely to miss the entire season with a significant UCL tear. Well, IF the Braves did check it, we can see why it didn't progress.

I mentioned at the start of the off-season those injuries last year scared me with a potential trade. Glad we didn't go down that path.

Our bench as currently constructed lacks a quality LH bat. We’re pretty strong on versatility with Dubon Mateo and White so we could likely sub out Wisely for Smith

Is Farmer still with the team? He might be able to land a spot. Gamel is also a possibility, probably insurance for a Yaz injury. I think Wisely is there as an alternative to Mateo. Even if we have to DFA him again, we’ll probably still eventually get him back. I would say we need another right-handed bat with some pop, but I guess they’re going to hope Heim can provide that while Murphy is on the shelf.

Yes. I would not be surprised to see him make the team actually. He has a lot of defensive versatility and the bat should carry enough for a utility role.

Gabe Burns of the AJC says the Braves never seriously pursued Bassitt and aren't currently in on Giolito.

We totally rocking it out with what we have and I'll be shocked if it doesn't blow up in our face.

Still looking forward to some baseball, but this puts a bad taste in my mouth.

AA has said all along he wants a SP that would start a playoff game. I'm sure he's checked the trade route but they are probably waiting to hear about Waldrep.
