2025 Around The League Thread

I hadn't realized Stanton was having a bit of a career resurgence this year. He's been on an insane run since the ASB, with 17 homers and a 1.200 OPS.

I wish there was a way the Philthies and Mets could both lose. But an epic meltdown from the Philthies this second half would be amazing to see.

Your daily NL ROY odds update that I will continue to obsess over because we don't have a playoff race to follow:

Horton from +140 to +150.
Collins from +180 to +185.
Baldwin from +240 to +210.

Anyone with any baseball IQ will swing it toward the rookie catcher.

I know these odds likely take that into account, but I'm just saying if its anywhere close he gets it if it were me.

I feel like Horton has to have the worst odds at this point. Not because of how he is necessarily performing, but because he only has 5-6 starts remaining and 1 bad start could tank his chances. If Horton goes out tomorrow and gets shelled for 6 runs in 3 innings, his ERA would shoot up over 3.30.

There is also the point that a SP hasn't won the ROY with less than 130 IP since 1981. Skenes is the closest with 133 IP last year, but he was a phenom with a 1.96 ERA, was a former No. 1 overall pick, and he posted 4.3 fWAR in those 133 IP.

how the heck does a pitcher with less than 100 innings thus far be favored in the ROY race. unfortunately, voters are dumb and playoff race will factor into the decision more than it should. Unless Baldwin goes off in the games he plays as a part time player, then I just don't see him winning it.

I think it's more a commentary on how mediocre this rookie class is, but hopefully we'll be able to take advantage of it. I do agree with Carp, Horton just doesn't make any sense here. Seems like something that would fix itself when people start looking at the big picture when the season is over and not shifting odds daily based on the previous day's outcome.

Was Horton or Collins on any prospect lists coming into the season? If not I could see voters swinging more towards Baldwin to entice teams to start them from day 1 like Baldwin. We have to get Baldwin more at bats. It's criminal at this point.

Collins definitely wasn't. I would guess that Horton probably was. I'm struggling to find many preseason lists because most of the links updated to their current lists, but Fangraphs had him in the 70s before the year started and Baseball America had him unranked. Either way, he wasn't up on opening day so the Cubs aren't eligible for the picks.

Collins was never ranked so he wouldn't net a draft pick

Horton was ranked, but wasn't on the opening day roster so he also wouldn't net a pick.

I think he was in the 50's maybe on MLB

I hate how Snit runs stuff. The swapping out everyday or who has better results against a pitcher from the past. I get that stuff if you are playing crucial games and have to win but we are past that point. Everything should be about getting Baldwin as many at bats as possible at this point.

I kind of hate the ROY connection to a draft pick thing. I get the point of it, but in practice, I think it could backfire. The writers could just say 'F the Braves." and give it to someone who won't net a pick. Most writers do tend to be homers and have their own biases. I just think that if it's going to be a thing it needs be on a measurement (like fWAR) and not by a vote.

Adding Laureano was a great move. Only problem was we didnt keep him. I think in context adding Nick Allen was a good move. Its not his fault former All Stars in their 20s hit like him for half the season. The juries still out on Profar but his bat has been good so far.

Adding Ramon last year is a good move if that is your 4th OF.. then letting him go when he showed he could be a good everyday LF negated that completely and then some.
Adding Allen as IF depth is a good move.. Adding Allen as your primary SS for a contending team is a horrible move.

Allen as the worst starter is fine assuming the rest of the team doesnt shit the bed. He provides elite defense at a position where it makes a big difference and he does so cheap.
