2025 Spring Training Thread

And twit pushing Ozzie to the 2 hole behind a switch hitter.. Man I hope this is just spring "I don't care" lineup and not what we will see come game 1.

lol at people arguing over semantics of what injury prone is.

For the record, I would consider injury prone as soft tissue issues. Someone that is constantly being injured just by playing the game. Having broken bones by being hit or colliding with someone on the field are freak accidents that can and will happen to anyone.

The question becomes then what do you do with Ian. He is out of options and someone would pick him up if they DFA'd him.. but is he worth stashing in the pen not getting many reps.

If we are remotely serious about a pen role, he needs to be doing that now.

He is better served hitting behind a true lefty. It punishes a team for going lefty reliever.

Now ask yourself. WWSD. What Would Snit Do? Now you no longer have to worry about meaningless things like lefty protection and just accept the natural course of Lineup Conscruction By Snit(tm)

Well twit being twit.. I agree.. but I still hold out hope that someone will take that away from him.. Just let him mess up pen usage and be done with it.

I agree.. so then what do you do with him if you don't give him the #4/5? he wouldn't clear waivers.

You trade him a bad team for a middle reliever with options. Or, ideally, as a throw in as part of a package to get a legitimate starting pitcher to replace Morton/Fried.

I mean the Chi-Sox are probably about to run Bryse Wilson out as a SP for goodness sakes. So there certainly are teams that would likely give him a chance.

A couple of guys that have surprised me so far this Spring . . .

Enyel De Los Santos: 95-96 with the FB and command was strong in the couple outings I saw. Last year was pretty disastrous for him with the long ball, but he turned in a couple of really solid seasons for CLE before that. Maybe he just gets stashed at AAA to start the year, but he could be useful when needed.

Nick Allen: Defense and OB skills were kind of his calling cards coming in, and those have both checked out. I've seen him strike the ball hard a few times too, which I wasn't necessarily expecting. He's got virtually no competition for the reserve SS role . . . none of Cairo, Williams, or White can play MLB-caliber defense at short.

Not really ... he’s had two ML IL stints. Those are the data points.

My post from page 9:

3 injuries actually. 2 injuries in 2024. 1 in 2023. And that doesn't include getting too hot.

And, as strange as it may sound, he did indeed have a career before he came to Atlanta

From the internets:

Oakland Athletics catcher Sean Murphy will be sidelined for several weeks after having surgery for a collapsed lung but is expected to be fine and fully recovered by Opening Day. - Linky

According to the A's, their third-ranked prospect underwent surgery on his left knee Thursday, which also was his 25th birthday. They expect him to be ready by Spring Training. After being limited to 194 games over his first three seasons due to hand injuries, broken wrists and a staph infection, Murphy battled a torn meniscus in his left knee this season, leading to two stints on the injured list. - Linky

That's a pretty long history of significant injuries and medical issues, regardless if he spent time on the major league IL or not.

The problem isn't that he is injured a lot it's that he hits like Melvin when healthy. At this point I think it's debatable if he is a better hitter than Tromp.

I mean this is not wrong statement. Simply put the Braves had him for 2 full seasons and he has been a competent player for 3 months. He will be useless for at least another month to start this season. This is a problem AA created. And when myself and others said this right after trade we were assured methhead was by far the best player in the trade. He might not even be the second best player in that trade.

And they could have traded him to get a cheap player at a position if need. Now next off-season we will have to eat salary just to get nothing for him.
