2025 Spring Training Thread

Anyone else concerned about Reynaldo Lopez? He last pitched on 3/7 and his velocity was down around 3 MPH. His normal day to pitch would have been Thursday, but they went with the bullpen game instead. I don't recall the beat writers saying anything about him pitching on the back fields instead, but maybe they did and I missed it?

Not to worry. The Braves have so much pitching depth they can cover it. I mean Waldrep, Hackenburg, qualbush, morris, janko. The list of impressive depth just goes on and on.

Yea they have. I am ready to give Allen a shot at SS. Arcia has been awful

I don’t think anyone needed spring to know Asscia was awful.

I am with ya on letting Allen at least have a crack at playing more. However, I think he might be fools gold since he came in as career .200 hitter.

Should nick allen start at ss?

Allen has really taken the chance and run with it this spring. Old as I am, I have in my mind quite a list of Braves' players who lit up spring training and didn't make a dent in the majors, but Allen is a bit different in that he has played a considerable amount in the majors already. I highly doubt he hits this well during the regular season, but I wouldn't be that surprised if he was the full-time starter at some point this season. Arcia looks like he had his half-season of greatness with the Braves (and it was a half-season of greatness) but has hit the downward slope.

No, but I needed Spring to see if they had anyone less awful

Albies with another grounder to 1B. If he can get a little closer to the plate maybe he can pull them all foul and never get out. Or maybe he can put his back foot in the RH batter box so he is straddling the plate, and never even let the pitch get past the plate.

Hard not to be excited about AJSS. CoolToday Park gun clocked a first inning FB at 100 and a couple 4th inning FBs at 99. Generated quite a few awkward swings on the breaking stuff. Still a little raw though. Some hangers (mostly the new Cutter) and some non-competitive pitches. 8 Ks and no BBs though . . . love that.

My recollection is that Allen is very good defensively. Also, his MLB track record is not good, but it is not a very big sample, and he was considered a top prospect.

He wouldn’t be the first guy to take a couple of years to figure out MLB.

I would like to see them give him a shot. Lots of guys do well in ST, but can’t carry it into the season. I would like to see him get enough of a shot to find out if his ST performance will translate.

I wish he’d pitch in a park with statcast so we could see real data. It would be awesome if his stuff has ticked up.

Good to see Harris stealing a base and sliding hands first into 2B. If he could break a finger or wrist on March 15th that would be outstanding for this teams championship chances.
