Sure we don't know how they valued him. But objectively, Murphy is way more valuable than a non-elite closer. And Sears barely has value.

For an entire season? Yes Murphy does have more value. In a playoff series? Not always the case.

I mean I would certainly rank Duran and Helsley both over Miller as far a closers go. Not exactly apples to apples in value, since their level of team control is different, but damn, neither closer pulled anything near what the Pads gave up. So you lose out on those 2 and you decided to pivot to trading the #3 overall prospect in the game for a worse reliever? Holy shit.

Pretty hard to stomach the reality that Laureano was a $7M option and AA instead gave Profar a 3 year deal for 2x that amount per year.

Bad deadline last year, disastrous offseason, and potentially a bad deadline this year. Would be tough to defend him looking at those three things plus back to back disappointing seasons.

Yeah, that’s not what that means.

It was reported the Pads were interested in Murphy a couple weeks ago. And Murphy objectively has more value than Miller.

Is it a guarantee we could have gotten him? No. But the fact is that AA wasn't even interested in trading Muphy right now. And in turns out the Pads were at least willing to part with De Vries in general.
