2025 Trade Deadline Thread

It hasn't been Anthopoulos' MO to trade veterans for prospects, so I don't know why he would start now. I think he's have to be absolutely bowled over to trade Murphy. I can see Ozuna being moved because you can cycle Baldwin and Murphy through the DH spot, but unless he can get an absolute haul (Winn and a couple of prospects), Murphy won't be going anywhere.
I agree. AA did fool all of us in the draft by going mainly offense. I think that's probably his plan going forward is to save Ozunas money next year and use Murphy and other guys through the DH spot which is fine with me.

I don't think Prince Albert nor Bummer bring much back, even if you pay the 2025 salary.. those two are more salary relief next year if you feel internal options (JJ/Lopez/Lara/Suero) could easily replace them. I would do it and use the 16 million to buy something more elite in the pen personally. I am also fielding calls on Holmes/Ozuna/and Iggy for sure... you better wow me for Meth...
You're underrating the going rate for quality relievers at the deadline. Johnson and Bummer are both quality, and would be pretty valuable if we ate their salaries l.

Murphy only gets moved if it can help the team in 2026.

It's really as simple as that. Other players who are gone after this year are fair game and I'd expect prospect most of them to be moved by the deadline.

Its fine until he goes into another 3 month slump. He was garbage for 1.5 years. Now he is hitting and has good value again and we refuse to capitalize on it.

Maybe I’m over valuing Murphy but I’d have a hard time taking just Winn… I feel like that’s a light return if it’s just him.

I would drive Murphy to the airport. Even if you think Murphy is the better player he has 3 years 45 million left after this year. Winn has 1 year of pre-arb left after this year. So a trade would be Murph for 4 years vs Winn for 4 years plus we get an extra 30 million in those first 3 years. Imo filling our biggest need while lowering payroll would be a huge win. At that point we need a SP, Closer, DH, backup catcher, and a quality 4th outfielder with around 70 million to spend before we get to the luxury cap.

Murphy is so much more valuable than Winn it’s not even funny.

Murphy was a 5.2 fWAR player in 2022 and a 4.9 fWAR player in 2023… 2024 was an obvious outlier due to never getting on track from injury. He is at 2.3 fWAR already this year as a part time player. Calling him a 3 WARish player is just not true.

Winn is an average hitter with great defense at a premium position. Murphy is an above average hitter with great defense at a premium position. If we are trading Murphy I want a possible difference maker. Winn would be an improvement because we have a black hole there but I think he would be a pretty boring addition and we could do better. And if not, I’d rather keep Murphy.

Dude, Murphy is 30 and will be 31 years old in October. He is under contract 3/45 after this year.

Winn is 23 and he is also at 2.8 fWAR so far this year. He's at super cheap rates and controllable for 4 more seasons. And SS is universally perceived as much more valuable than C.

Murphy is a better player right now. For a contending team that needs catcher/offense he's certainly more valuable than Winn.

But for the Braves that's the opposite. The team has their catcher of the future and Winn will be an upgrade offensively and defensivley at a huge position of need.

Not sure what the Cards plan on doing. They are 2.5 GB of the WC and aren't horrible on offense.

Like I said, a small IL trip for Winn is what we need. The Cards bring up Wetherholt and he beast it out of the gate. Winn becomes expendable.

Good. I certainly hope our players have high value. My problem will be next year when he is batting .156 at the ASB. We have had this guy for 2.5 years and so far we got 1 season(2 halves of different seasons) of good Murphy and 1.5 years of Melvin. Maybe less catching and more DH will help his bat.
