Sure. The premise is would he have put up those numbers if he wasn't constantly getting calls an inch or two off the plate. We all have issues with the umps but I believe as a group they are a lot better at calling balls and strikes than they were 3 decades ago. And now with ABS it's going to get even better once they are all replaced. Loved watching the guy pitch but he's an example of someone that wouldn't be nearly as good in the modern game and it would even be worse once umps aren't giving him a generous strike zone.

It’s a flawed rhetorical exercise. Randy Johnson wouldn’t be as good in the modern game (and Sale would have been better in the 80’s). We don’t have any data on whether Glavine disproportionately benefitted from a worse called strike zone. He wasn’t one of the best pitchers of his generation just because he got a couple extra strike calls a game.

Randy Johnson would be just as good in any era.
I don't think people realize how good today's hitters have it. All the new rules have been put in place to benefit them in today's game, and yet we still aren't seeing the crazy offenses we saw in the 90's and early 2000s.

Randy is the most dominant pitcher in my lifetime. He would be the best pitcher in baseball.
But he also immensely benefitted from being one of the only hard throwing pitchers in his era. Modern hitters are accustomed to velocity the previous eras

Not sure if you intended to disagree with anything I said, but I feel like I covered this by saying he’d be the best pitcher in baseball (which includes Skubal).
But it’s also true Skubal would be better if he played in Randy’s era.

Its obviously way too early to make any definitive statements, but Kyle Schwarber shitting the bed after getting that monster contract would probably be the least surprising thing ever.

The Phillies have been old for a few years, so if this is actually the end of the line, I wouldn't be shocked. I do think they'll figure it out and grab a WC spot at least, but they're "not as good as they once was," that's for sure.
