2026 : Around the League

Man.... the Phillies are REALLY bad. The Mets at least have the excuse of Soto and Lindor being hurt. They would probably be closer to .500 if both guys had been healthy so far. But the Phillies have not really missed anyone other than Realmuto and Wheeler (who knows how good he is at this point), and they've still been this bad.
IDK the lowlights I've seen from both indicate RANCID defense and those players have been big players in those lowlights.

i dunno if you can judge team defense from the lowlights alone

philly's defense isn't good but of the teams i've seen play it's still been noticeably better than, say, the angels and nats

carp's point seems solid to me, if i had to pick i'd rather be a mets fan right now; there is a lot more potential for upside from their injured/underperforming guys than there is for philly

No but a lot of them have Lindor in them and he's getting picked off, forgetting to cover the base, forgetting how many outs, etc...

You know, Acuna type stuff, just slightly worse.

It's pretty striking to look at the Phillies' lineup and see how crummy it is outside the top three. Schwarber and Harper are fine hitters, and you assume Turner will be fine eventually. But after that, man, what the hell else do they have? A 35-year-old J.T. Realmuto still clinging to respectability? The fact that Justin Crawford is very young?

Even at 2 more years after this Realmuto seems fine for what they are paying him. Been a 2 WAR player the last 3 years and is well on his way to that again. But he's not the stud he was in Miami or the first part of his Phillies career. They are just an old team now.

You can't count anyone out in April. But it would take some pretty epic rebounds from several players for the Phillies to get back in the playoff hunt before July.

Their pitching is basically Sanchez, Wheeler, and Luzardo. And Sanchez is really the only one you can legitimately rely on every 5th day. Their BP is hot garbage outside of Duran. I expect their hitting to get better, mostly because it's almost impossible to be that bad. But they still are not a good offense, even if Turner rebounds and Realmuto gets healthy.

The Phillies offense had a lot of issues last year, but they were masked by Schwarber having a career year at age 32. And they brought in no one in the off-season other than Garcia, who was not very good either.

Save strider for Seattle.

And good for Cora. That Phillies team isn’t getting any younger. Get paid the rest of this year to hang out on the beach with family and try to get a better job in October if he still wants to.
