2026 ST Thread

I can dig up many comments along the lines of “with so many injuries there’s no way they could have built enough depth, so it’s ok they added no depth”. In fact, tehteh said something that stupid just last week.

I can also find several along the lines of “I think the depth of all these AAAA names is decent”, or postulating that any other position on the roster was more important to add than SP.

Would you like me to start searching and quoting? If I post 10 will you admit you’re wrong about “nobody disagreed”? Doubt it. That would get in the way of your latest failed gotcha attempt.
Yea. You should definitely go do that. Seems like a great use of time.

Just booked my hotel to see the braves on opening night. This will be my first opening day, and I hope I control my beer intake enough to remember it

I hope the Braves are winning by enough early that your beer intake is not required to be excessive. But- and I speak for all of Chop Country- having boots on the ground in case of extreme circumstances is greatly appreciated!

I feel pretty confident in saying that Gil will be a solid major-league SS or 2B. He may not be elite, but he's just a solid player who is very clearly growing into his role perfectly.

Also, it was encouraging to see Tate Southisene last night. Multiple 100+ EVs. He still feels like a long shot to me, but the upside is extremely clear.
Massive upside with Tate. But he's super raw.

I literally don’t care about “gotcha” anything; I just genuinely don’t understand your raison d’être, your posting τέλος, your motivation or intent, your spark of joy, your Unified Theory of Trolling. Like, what drives any of this, and is it even fun for you, or just rote compulsion at this point? No judgment if it’s the latter—as I said, I’m operating from a place of actual curiosity, as we gaze upon the threshold of a fresh season of baseball and question why we keep putting ourselves through any of this.

Sure. I don't recall 5 people, much less 10, saying that our pitching depth was completely fine.

There may have been some people rationalizing AA's decisions or pointing out that we do have some decent depth options in AAA in the form of prospects who are ML ready. But I think 99% of the people on this board held the opinion that we needed a quality starter in FA.

And while it doesn't justify making zero moves in FA to address the SP depth, it is absolutely correct when someone says you can't adequately plan for 2 or more SPs to go down for 3+ months before the end of ST. Even if we had added Ranger Suarez, Dylan Cease, or Framber Valdez we would likely still be looking at Elder making potentially 10+ starts in 2026 with the injuries to Schwelly and Waldrep.

Two things can be true at the same time. AA put us in a bad spot by not signing a quality SP in FA, but it's also unrealistic to have expected him to sign/trade for 2 (or more) quality SPs given our budget and roster construction.
