3/12 vs Phillies

Braves line up

Inciarte--CF

Camargo--3B

Freddie--1B

Flowers--C

Markakis--RF

Culberson--2B

Tucker--LF

Swanson--SS

Newk--Throwing

Getting close to our opening day lineup... sub albies for Culberson and flip him and camargo. Julio for Newcomb

Radio saying Swanson looks much looser (more range) at SS this spring. If that is true, pretty big deal

Incredibly positive stat line for Newk. Improving to Gio-level control would be huge for the Braves...and that's an understatement.

170+ IP of 9+ K/9 and ~3.5 BB/9 is a 3-4 win pitcher.

I have to imagine he has all but secured a spot in the rotation. Only question now is if he gets 1-2 starts in AAA to stay stretched out until the Braves need 5 SPs.

I would. Let kaz fail. Let Newk show he is ready. Tell him he is next to call up as long as he goes down and throws strikes.

A Newk with this kind of control would be absolutely filthy.

Yep. In one of Olney's articles, Olney talks about the importance of a pitcher being able to throw a get it over breaking ball for a strike to either get ahead in the count or come back from behind. David Ross calls these "dumpers." Olney then quoted a scout saying Newcomb has started throwing these this spring, a sure sign of development.
