4/26 GDT Fried vs Rockies

Fried’s uptick in K’s and continued low BB rate is very encouraging. His normalization of HR rate is not alarming and not surprising.

If soroka and fried are our 2 and 3 for a long time I think we are really good. I feel confident we can get good 4 and 5 level production out of the stable of arms.

Not confident we have a stud or anyone else in the soroka level to round out the top. Maybe folty can do it.

It seems Fried hasn't been using his changeup as much and is relying too heavily on that curveball. I get that its one of the best in the business but it is susceptible to hangers. Hopefully the plan moving forward is to give the hitters a 'middle' speed to think about more.

He hung a few curves tonight and paid for them. But really the Rockies had a great approach against him tonight at the plate

The HR rate was always going to regress. Giving up solo shots is fine, and not walking people is a good way to help ensure they are only solo shots.

His BB/9 is still 2, which is spectacular. If he has truly refined his control to anything near that level he will be just fine.

When the “wheels fell off” start is 4 runs over 5.1 innings with 0 BBS and 8 Ks, there isn’t really much to worry about. If his “bad control” night leads to a couple solo HRs and no walks, there’s no reason to freak out.

The velocity held steady, so there is no reason to worry about Fried...unless you thought he was suddenly an Ace.
