And shows why sturg is such a useful idiot. The revolution wasn't started because of high taxes, it was started because of the Colonists wanting a say in Parlaiment. The rallying cry was no taxation without representation, not no taxation.

Taxes on the Colonists were lower than taxes in Britain. They were lower than taxes after the revolution if my math is right on conversions (Schilling in 1790 being worth about 9.2 USD now, while the dollar in that same conversion is worth about 33 dollars)

Sturg ****ing headline read "No taxation without representation" as "No taxation" because that's where his brain stops.

And the taxes were really justified because the British military was what prevented any other major nation from taking the land. The whole thing is just a nice story we like to tell ourselves. Quite literally the first thing President Washington did was put down a rebellion. Had those guys won we would be talking about how they were the good guys defeating the evil President Washington.
 
Yup. Washington was our first tyrant. Put down the Whiskey Rebellion. History is a funny thang.

I thought you supported less taxes? Seems like you'd be against the revolution as it lead to significant increases in taxes and removed government control from the colonial governors and moved it to a central US government.
