5/20 vs nats

I had a feeling (prompted by the YNOT question) that Rio was going to go yard this series.

Good for him.

Hopefully this is the start of a hot 2-week stretch for Rio to supplant Adonis at 3B. Adonis would be a decent bench piece in the late innings vs. lefties.

Adonis has a career OPS vs RHers of 680. He is good vs LHers as evidenced by his career 839 OPS against them.

Any competent FO that was truly trying to win this year would have brought in a LHed hitting guy to platoon with Adonis at 3B. Maybe Rio can be that guy, and maybe that's why they didn't bring in anyone else.

I've always thought that the 2017 talk was a ruse and if Coppolella was a true believer in his assertions about contending, he needs to get tested. You don't trade for a guy like Ruiz and promote him aggressively just to toss him on the scrap heap. I hope he shows he can contribute at the big league level.
