5//28... rubber game vs giants

What's the over/under on Giants' runs in this game--15? The Colon/Dickey experiment is a [fornicating] joke.

Well, good to see our over 40 club $20+ million rotation investment is working out.

Bad part is they getting us out of games in early innings of the ball game. They get their titts ripped innings 1-3 like crazy. I dunno why the FO hasn't made a move yet.

I'm usually more on the posibrave side than the negabrave....guys....I don't think our staff would be any worse if we traded ALL five of our starters and had five different ones next year. Tell me a rotation of Newk, Sims, Medlen, Weigel and say Fried would be any worse EVEN if they were learning on the job.

Yep, they continually give up five or six runs in the first couple of innings which flush any realistic chance we might have of winning any game they start.

As bad as our starters have been, perhaps we should reprise 1987 when we brought Tom Glavine up prematurely from the minors. He took his lumps for a couple of years, learned quickly, and the rest is history. As bad as our starters have been, I'd ask the baseball minds on this board what we'd have to lose by taking this approach other than risking damage to some young psyches? It's not like we're going to be legit contenders anytime soon.

Damaging their psyches and wasting years of control of the pitchers when they are not even ready are pretty huge deals of a low/mid market team like the Braves. By the time they are ready we'll control them for 3 years and they'll be gone. It's not the 90s anymore, we don't have the payroll to sign multiple pitchers to top end deals and compete. Even over the hill scrubs like Colon cost 12 mil, which is a tenth of our payroll.

Fair enough--thanks

Agreed. It's just a different landscape than it was at that time. Back then you could bring up prospects and either have them get their lumps in as a starter or ease into the majors as a reliever. Today's game can't really be played that way and probably has something to do with how often pitchers are blowing out their arms. Everything is max effort all the time it seems.

If you replaced Teheran, Folty, and Garcia with 3 inexperienced rookies... yes it would be quite a bit worse. That being said, I'm fine at this point with ending the Dickey/Colon experiment... throw 2 of Medlen, Newcomb, Sims, Blair, or Wisler up there.... keep trying until someone strings together a handful of decent starts.
