50 States 50 Bands

Michigan is home of Motown, and some of the most influential punk bands like MC5 and the Stooges. But again I'm going with favorite again.

White Stripes were truly special. Well really Jack White is so special.

What I've been waiting for, the Garden State. The Greatest State. There's one winner, you know where it's gonna go. But I want to point to some of the other amazing bands, Bon Jovi, Skid Row, Symphony X, so many others. But there is, was and will always be one Boss

So many options from New York, so many bands. Amazing punk bands, classic bands like The Velvet Underground, many individual acts, and so much more. But I went with

North Carolina rise up and yeah from there definitely only one

Love playing this on guitar even if it's like the most depressing song ever.

Hard to pick one for North Dakota, mainly single acts so I went with Jonny Lang as a new era blues musician.

On that note I need a youtube break so I may be back later unless I"m needed by the ball and chain.

Great thread! Musical tastes are personal, so I won't split hairs on most of these. But you missed big on Kentucky. Bill Monroe influenced everybody, including Elvis and Chuck Berry. Chuck Berry's famous lick was a direct steal from Bill Monroe's mandolin playing, he even admitted as much. Of course, Bill Monroe stole it from a black guitarist named Arnold Shultz.

Gonna try to knock out a few more while I'm waiting for laundry

I lied on Ohio, I was saving one for Pennsylvania, because Trent Reznor is from Pennsylvania, didn't realize the band actually formed in Ohio until I jsut did a bit of research. So bye bye Black Keys

Went with Perfect Drug but could have gone with a number. I think it's one of Reznor's most creative.

Oklahoma is a country hot bed. I don't like the Brand of country that came from Oklahoma artists, so I won't go there. To me the most definitive band from Oklahoma is THe Flaming Lips, while hardly their biggest hit, this is the one that I know the best (from my childhood of course)

I had to look up Oregon, found a band who popped off the page. While mainly known for Daddy issue songs, this is far and away my favorite song by them

Pennsylvania. Lots of options. Big state, close to NY, Philly had a huge explosion in the 90s of hip hop and R&B artists, anyone who tries to deny the popularity of artists like Will Smith or BoyzIIMen, also a surprising number of pop stars are originally from PA. Pink, Taylor Swift and Christina Aguilera all hail from there. Then I could pick on some of the smaller indie bands. And for that I will in the second part, but for definitive I'm gonna go with someone who's classic.

bonus coverage of a local band who has had moderate success and I wish to at least emulate them

I'm 1000% cheating with Rhode Island, I don't care. THere's no bands I know of from there, and only one person so deal

Where to go with South Carolina?

I could really pick a number of places. But there's one song from a SC band that sticks out like a sore thumb to me.
