6/10/15: GDT - San Diego Padres @ Atlanta Braves

Crazy we're probably in 1st with a halfway decent pen in a rebuilding year.

You know, these guys ain't so ****ing bad.

Moving forward I think that we should go under the premise that John Hart and his staff know what they are doing. Agreed?

sort of ....but the fun of message boards is thinking of what you'd do as GM and arguing....

Like I consider Jace and Peraza SS who are going to have a 350 OBP and slug about 350. I think we lower their value by playing them at 2B. And I don't understand moving either to OF. I'd see if someone needs a SS and trade one of them to fill a hole at 3B or OF.

I would agree that the Braves should move Peraza as soon as he gets hot in AAA. Every position he would plays (SS/2B/CF) are well taken care of at this time.

The season is roughly 1/3 complete. The Braves are under .500, so let's take it easy and annoint Hart the bestus. I will say they are exceeding my expectations and I am happy with their play so far.

Like you said, still very early but the amount of love that was being thrown AJ Prellers way was a bit disgusting.

Not from me. I hated his offseason.

Especially if Justin leaves. Incredibly shortsighted and reckless given the Padres are a small market team.

This is a likeable, watchable, rootable team. I still think it's more likely to be playing tag with .500 if things go well, rather than competing for a playoff spot, but I've genuinely enjoyed the season so far.

The success of the rebuild is going to be judged by the efficacy of the young guys acquired this offseason, and by what the Johns do with the money freed up in the Kimbrel/Melvin trade. That was the deal that turned my frown upside down with regard to the future, but the FO still has to follow through and add some quality pieces.

I like this club, but before we go handing out laurel wreaths, let's remember that we're still a game under .500.

true. nats are still better and have the money to keep guys. they have a farm ranked as high as us or higher. Mets have money and are better now. They have a farm system. Miami has a bunch of talent and will get Fernandez back at the break.

It's not an easy division. We still don't have a guy you think will hit 25 plus HRs. Maybe FF, but that's pushing it. Not sure we can live on a lineup with 3 or more guys with OBP>Slugging

The primary goal of this season wasn't to be good and they may just end up being average. What happens when they are actually trying to be good in the current year?

I think they are an okay team. Much better than I thought. I didn't know the Braves weren't trying to be good. Regardless of what happens in the off season. Every team's goal is to win and in essence be good.

Nats have a ton of guys to pay in the next few years.

Off the top of my head.

Ramos, Desmond, Harper, Span (probably replaced by Taylor), Zimmerman, Stras, Fister, Storen are all due new deals in the next 2-3 years.

Not saying they wont keep them but can only pay so many.

And we're probably in 1st if we had a halfway decent pen in a rebuilding year.
