6/11 vs mets

Jaime Garcia is the only one of our pending free agents who might net us a draft pick. Something to keep in mind. His style of pitching--lots of ground balls--is well-suited for the new ballpark. Also something to keep in mind.

He's also injury prone but if he were to stay healthy all year, he'd net us a pick more than likely with the meh FA market.

But depending what was offered, would be dumb not to listen obviously.

Braves on pace to win 70.5 games. Looks like we all were homers with our projections.

Not a bad thing tbh, we could use the high pick, again.

But Freeman being out has something to do with that.

The complete Colon face plant as well as the early struggles of Teheran and Swanson are causing the trend to less than middle case scenario.

Unicorn best case was always .500

Worst case could still come. Think if Freeman and Kemp hadn't started so hot...

Not really worth worrying about draft picks in the new system.

So we need to get faster players? Having a high OBP and being 3rd in the NL in groundball % will sadly result in a lot of double plays. That groundball % will also explain some of the high BABIP and resulting good avg as well as the below avg slugging.

This is a team without much speed and without much power. That requires getting hits if you are going to be successful and we've seen firsthand this weekend what relying on an approach without speed or power means. Sure, it's only four games, but this team has little margin for error.

It's always worth worrying about draft picks, even in our system. You never know the player you could get. I really like Garcia and would love for him go stay, but his injury history is almost too concerning.

Depends on offers but I think if Garcia starts more than five more times for us we have made a mistake

I think Garcia gets as many starts as it takes for Medlen to be deemed ready, and yes you have a vet lefty with an injury history pitching well....move him by early July at the latest.

you can't keep Garcia.. you just can't.. not only the injury risk, but also we have guys who are knocking and need to find a spot. I would throw Wisler again after his start. It was a quality start. Newk also deserves more looks at this point. I think he needs to learn up here now.

BTW.. who did we send down. I haven't checked. We had 26 on Saturday.. someone had to go

Everything right here.

Injury prone? Check.
Veteran pitcher on a rebuilding team? Check.
Pitching really well? Check.
One year deal? Check.

It just makes no sense to keep him right now. And frankly, it also makes quite a bit of sense to get Sims/Wilser/Blair/Newcomb and maybe even Wiegel some innings this year.

How many more options does Wisler have?? I feel like we have used 100 on him.

Yes, Wisler, Blair, Sims...even Medlen all need to be evaluated in the pros this year. If they keep doing well...Weigel, Gohora, Soroka and even Allard will also be in AAA maybe THIS year and will definitely will be knocking on the door by mid year next year.

I agree.

He's also a left hander with playoff experience, which should make him valuable. I feel like he might be a target of a younger team or small market team unexpectedly in the playoff picture who wants to go for it and wants a veteran who has been there.

Unfortunately, the Braves probably have to get closer to the deadline and further out of the wild card standings before they can do this move because of the politics of the situation.

Jamie holds more value to a team the sooner they can acquire him. he won't be a #1 or #2 on a playoff team, so they need him to make a move in the division. We are not going to get a crap ton for him.. but we will get a spot open for young guys to make an impression.

Options are on a per year basis. Meaning we can move Wisler up and down multiple times this year and still have used one option on him.
