6/12/15: GDT - Atlanta Braves @ NY Mets

Jace and Maybin are killing at 1-2.

Its really hard to believe how well those 2 deals worked out for us. Jace and Maybin have outperformed Justin and Kimbrel so far and all the prospects (except for Fried) are doing well. Plus we cleared up $55 million over the next 3 years. As bad as the Tex trade was, these are looking 10x better.

Even in my ultimate homeristic view I could not have dreamed these trades would have worked out this well. Push forward the rebuild by 2+ years.

I really do think that as Jace gets his feet underneath him he is going to show more power. This kid is going to be a good one. 1.3 WAR and counting....

Agreed.

Regardless though, I think we lose Jace or PERAZA via trade...The Braves have to address the lack of power issue either through trade or free agency since they failed to address it via the draft...

Not so sure I can agree with the outperformance of Justin. Justin is currently on mark for a career season...he's a stud and I want him back. He's killing the ball this year.

Yeah JUp has been a monster this year.

I'd love to have him back but i think that ship has sailed.

Upton is the best player of the 4, but we're a better team with Maybin and Jace than with Justin and Kimbrel. And while Justin has oodles of offensive value, his defense sucks even for a left fielder. The gap between him, Maybin, and Jace isn't as big as you'd expect looking at his offensive stats.

fWar for the 4 of them:

Justin: 1.6
Jace: 1.3
Maybin: 1.3
Kimbrel: .4

Also keep in mind that fWAR evaluates pitchers based on peripherals rather than ERA, which will overvalue Kimbrel's contribution thus far. If you go by bWAR instead Jace and Maybin are the same while Justin is at 2.1 and Kimbrel is at 0.

JUp wasnt a problem, you live with his K's.

Uggla, CJ, BJ, and to a lesser extent even Gattis were the problems.

The whole tenure with Gattis as a whole was just weird. Who misses a month with Mono and then his first year missed like a month with a stomach bug.

What would you say to offering Justin 5 years 150 million. The part I fear most about a Justin Upton contract is the amount of years. I don't want a 10 year 250 million type deal. 5 years gets his age 28 thru 32 seasons. That's statistically likely to be his peak years. I think Justin might consider the shorter deal that pays more per year because it would set him up for free agency again at age 33 where he could probably get another long term contract. For the Braves payroll is supposed to go way up with the opening of the new park so I don't see why we couldn't afford to do it.
