6/26 GDT: Keuchel at Cubs

Obviously our offense is what makes us a good team and we have at best an average pitching staff.

But it’s the ability to win these close pitching games that determine who makes the playoffs. Our last three wins have been really impressive.

Second best bullpen in be NL... lucky or not... still the second best

I thought we were a 90-92 win team. The lineup is better than I thought but early bullpen injuries plus Gausman and Folty’s struggles caused some pitching issues. Fried has been a pleasant surprise and Keuchel should offset Folty’s problems. I think the original predictions might be how good we are.

That being said we slightly over performed those expectations in the first half. Due to that I’ll say 93 wins now as my over under. Of course if a pitcher gets straight or we add one that would push us up a bit. 100 probably won’t happen but 96 would be on the high end but not unreasonable.

Pitching is a strength in general in that we have an insane amount of depth.

Yeah but Gausman and Folty’s struggles hurt. Our depth is fixing the bullpen but we need someone else in all of those pitchers to step up and take a spot in the rotation.

Think I’d bet the over on that 91 win total now.

Basically would have to play at the same pace Philly is to hit that mark, which means Philly would have to play at a 96 win pace to catch us if Fangraphs’ projection is to be trusted.

Assuming we have a couple moves to make at the deadline, it’s a great position to be in.

I think we win the division easily. There's time for those pitchers to work through their problems. We are already doing pretty well considering we have got next to nothing from several key players. Some of them are bound to bounce back.

Not sure why everyone is surprised at the win total. We had 91 last year and the team got better. Even as good as he has been I still think there is going to be an insane month hot streak from Acuna that carries us to a 20 win month.

I also firmly believe that Folty is going to take a nice vacation and go back to AAA to get right. He will be good in August/September. Keuchel is great for a team like the Braves because of his the ability to eat innings and generate worm burners. Fried/Soroka are studs.

This team has a shot at 100.

No we won 90 last year. Are you even a Braves fan bro?

We did. But I felt the team over performed last year so any improvement we made with the roster would be met with regression thus making our win total roughly the same. That said our pythag record has us at a 45 wins which sounds a lot like what most people thought at this time of year. Braves are also 14-9 in 1 run games which has a bit of luck to it. Having the other teams in the East struggle at various times has certainly helped as well.

I do not think it is very hard to understand. It's very old school coach-y. I think you know exactly where he is coming from even if you disagree.

I'd prefer Nick to sit regularly vs LHP, but at the same time, I don't think Camargo has been good enough to make it worth worrying a whole lot about. And I do think playing three OF out of position is asking for game losing errors.

Braves OF situation is weird.

couple weeks ago you said you didn't think Markakis needed to be platooned..hm...
