It's funny but not in an amusing sense that when a team is heading in the wrong direction and the manager's seat should be warming up to the medium toast level, often times managers just start pulling out all stops and make it look like they are trying everything to get a win. I sometimes feel like I'm the old prospector sitting around the campfire spinning yarns of days gone by, but I remember when the Reds were getting ready to fire Ray Knight way back when. The Reds were playing the Saturday afternoon Game of the Week and Ray must have heard the axe being sharpened out behind the shed so he just starting making moves to make moves during the game. Hit-and-run, small ball, multiple mound visits, just about everything. It was something to behold and my roommate and I were just laughing like crazy trying to figure out what Ray was going to do next. It was like "Hey, I'm doing a shitty job but I am at least working hard while doing a shitty job." Ray was gone within a week.

Snitker is just the opposite. It's almost like "Why try anything?" I realize that a lot of folks just looked at the pre-season ZIPs and thought things were going to be a cake walk, but injuries and some real (and not unexpected by me) underperformance by key players have dampened things. I think it's a relative certainty that this is Snitker's last year at the helm and I don't know if Anthopoulos makes a move or not. Given the team has turned into a group of somnambulists, it would be justified but I don't know if it would make that big of a difference. This is still a good team, but unless they want to saunter past the next luxury tax threshold I don't know if there's any other solution than hoping key players really step things up.

Ok, xBA is trash. They list Acuna's on that groundball straight to the 3b as .450. In what world is a ground ball right at a mlb 3b not an out
 
Off topic, but what happened to Lucas Braun down in AA? He looked promising last year, but he's allowed 10 HR in 53 innings this year compared to just 5 HR in 79.1 AA innings last year.
