I think he commands more than you think. Elite catchers, which he is, are incredibly hard to get. In general, I agree with you but a catcher is different than every other position. A contender would go all-in on him.

I wouldn't call Murphy elite. He's capable of playing that way, but he's not on par with the top guys. 7th among catchers in fWAR since he came to Atlanta.
