6/6/15: GDT - Pittsburgh Pirates @ Atlanta Braves (Uribe at 2B)

"A great game of cat-and-mouse between Clint Hurdle and Fredi Gonzalez." -- Maybe if Fredi is one of those toxoplasmotic mice that's no longer afraid of cat pee.

Maybin is proving my point about how having a speed player in front of Simmons helps cut down on him hitting into DP's. He is partly tied for the league lead because earlier this year he had slow runners getting on and hitting in front of him.

While Simmons is quick defensively, his footspeed appears to be no more than average which, obviously, makes it more difficult for him to beat the relay throw to first.

Yea, he is pretty slow running for a shortstop but he has amazing instincts on defense and quickness to read plays. Plus he hits his share of hard hit grounders to short and third making for easy DP's too. That is why I prefer a player like Maybin batting in front of him who can steal a base and also good for hit and runs too. Which is a good idea with Simmons given his contact skills.

Good job by Teheran, he maintained a 92-93 mph velocity for much of that game minus this inning where he was 89-91.

Johnson has been very reliable this year so it's hard to argue with the move. I just hate that those two garbage singles (and the bunt by Polanco in front of the HR) have tainted his stat line.

No matter. There is no way that wasn't a huge confidence booster from Julio. That's what's important.
