I've always enjoyed his bits on 60 minutes. Definitely from the Cronkite mold of journalism excellence.
If you've watched 60 Minutes recently, Bill Whitaker was bumped up from CBS News correspondent to 60 Minutes reporter. Simon was 73, so you knew he wouldn't be on the road for too much longer, but Whitaker seems to already be a great spiritual successor to fill in Simon's role as the soft spoken reporter that does great bits on foreign culture, arts, music...
