8/15 GDT: Atlanta Braves (52-64) at Colorado Rockies (66-52)

3 weak fly balls for Albies tonight. He has hit them in well over 50% of his MLB PAs so far.

He was 30%-37% in the upper minors. I expect him to settle in and start hitting more grounders, and his production should rise as a result.

Pretty sure awful to start AAA last season before taking off. Going off memory though... maybe someone can clarify and give the number of PAs before he settled in

And now both members of the middle infield of the future are sporting an OPS in the 500s. The Braves need those guys to hit.

He was absolutely awful to start in AAA...and actually he started off pretty bad in A ball too two years ago but after a few weeks went on an incredible tear.

Think how different this year could've been if viz was the closer all year. If nothing else, he'd have most likely been a nice trade piece

That could be, but he's got a unique swing. Hits the ball out front and lifts everything. But he's got a good plane. If he starts hitting with authority he's gonna hit gaps. But without radical surgery, he's going to be an extreme fly ball hitter.

Which is okay. You're more likely to get hits with balls in the air than grounders.

JJ is 22/30 in save chances (73%).

For his career, Viz is 6/8 this year (75%) and 25/34 in his career (74%).

Viz closing all year would have changed absolutely nothing.

Huh?

Albies has never been an extreme fly ball hitter.

Grounders result in hits more often than fly balls. Especially for guys that don't hit those fly balls very far.

I'm not sure where you could have possibly gotten any of your info.

I watched him. And I looked at his .42 GB/FB ratio thus far in the majors. And his 19° launch angle.

I just looked at his minor league stats which were closer to 50/50 but trending toward more fly balls over the three years....I must say, I'm surprised it's that even given what we've seen of him with the big club.
